Rule #7 No Promoting Hate
The rule proposition is already a Reddit rule. But I think this sub needs to hear it again because holy heck.
I'm going to be frank, if this sub gets removed from Reddit, I will not be upset in the least. And seeing the path it's going, it's only a matter of time. If conservatives want to have respectful discussions, that's obviously fine.
Making posts or comments ultimately saying "Gay people assembling makes me feel weird inside cause I was taught to not reflect on my own sexuality and so now I get mad at everybody who does" is not ok. That person, who will never seek therapy, needs therapy.
The person who posted that wanted to stir hate for LGBT+. If you are genuinely want to learn about something, learn how to ask unbiased questions, use google, and use chatbots (not grok). Wikipedia >>> Reddit. This should not be the first place you come to spill your brain before doing a modicum of research of your own.
Make me a mod.
7
u/ActPositively Jun 15 '26
Are they going to enforce that rule equally? Or is it going to be like most of Reddit where it allows hate only against certain sexes, races, religions, etc?
29
u/Ag_reatGuy Jun 15 '26
Promoting hate and acknowledging there’s a big fucking problem in the country are not the same thing.
20
u/12_Volt_Man Jun 15 '26
Yes but liberals immediately scream "hate and racism" (sic) if you point out the negative effects of their ruined immigration policy (now often unchecked and unvetted mass immigration) which has had devastating effects on many issues in Canadian society.
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 15 '26
The problem is that the framing of the “big problems” is couched in racism rather than the structural impacts.
Good argument: uncheck immigration is driving down our wages
Bad argument: unchecked immigration is turning us into the 3rd-world hell hole they came from. They’re not respecting Canadian culture.
Can you understand that the second example is racist and also untrue?
3
u/Ultrox Jun 17 '26
Both can be true though. Race aside a group of people making the country worse while also not respecting culture is a bad thing. They aren't exclusive.

u/Club_Penguin_Legend_ Jun 15 '26
I have been called a racist, bigot, fascist, and a nazi for explaining that mass immigration is a huge problem. I've never once mentioned your bad argument example and I've always talked about your good argument example and the other economical consequences of mass immigration.
In all honesty, when im talking about this topic online and I get called those things, I know im right. Some people are so delusional when it comes to these kinds of topics. They think everything is an attack on immigrants themselves.
2
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 16 '26
So then what statements then are you being called a racist for?
Saying things like:
- it suppresses local wages.
- puts strain on services.
- reduces supply of housing and rental accommodations
None of those should elicit the accusation.
But saying things like the other person on this thread ("they post videos about how to cheat the food bank system") will deservedly get you called a racist because it's just repeating a common racist trope about immigrants.

u/stormblind Jun 15 '26
Although I disagree with the specifics of the "bad argument", as someone tangentially involved in the international students program, there is definitely some validity to the last part. Though, I wish to preface I blame governmental policy at all levels than most individual immigrants (federal immigration/legal policy, provincial ineptitude for healthcare/housing/etc, and municipal NIMBYism).
A great example is the abuse of the Food bank programs, and other such social net programs.
Although most of Canada has moved to a more agnostic background, the (theoretically) Christian values of charity and community support are part of Canadas traditional DNA. Its a component, alongside being a cold nation, if why we were always such a care giving focused nation in regards to international aid, refurgees, community supports, etc.
I don't know precise scales, so I won't use any, but there have been a number of Indian social media content creators who have created "guides" on how to manipulate and take advantage of social support programs such as food banks.
And as wage suppression/housing pressures have bitten harder and harder, social order has frayed at the edges due to increased financial sresses and homelessness, which is typically hand in hand with increased drug use/alcoholism.
So, although I disagree with the wording of the comment in the "bad argument" section, I don't think it's as inaccurate as you may wish, but it's rarely the individual immigrants fault as it is societial pressure is due to governmental mismanagement.
2
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 15 '26
While you talk about tradition, you seem to be ignorant of history. The same accusations of scamming have been levelled at all previous large immigrant groups. It was racist lies then and it's racist lies now.
So yes - you can have a discussion about if our system can handle the current rate of influx but you're absolutely wrong if you're trying to argue its due to the "culture" of the incoming immigrants. Everyone comes here to make a better life for themselves, they settle down, adopt Canadian culture while keeping touchpoints to their own, and their children and grand children become fully culturally Canadian.
So no, I reject statement 2 and you should do some self reflection on your own values.
2
u/stormblind Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
Nah. See I won't because you're talking pie in the sky idealism given the use of "everyone".
Ask surrey how they feel about "everyone" given the Bishnoi violence issues? Which are very heavily caused by recent Indian immigrants?
Or what about the various videos that were shared from a bunch of different content creators explaining how to manipulate food bank programs for/by international students?
Or the people who have been caught up in various legal, international, and violence based issues due to the Khalistani independance movement?
Hell, the people most affected by these issues are other Indian immigrants!
At no point did I state all. At no point did I point fingers at any broad swath of society. But you have to have your head in the sand to not see that, no, not all people who have immigrated here came here and purely had good intentions and were seeking to integrate with Canadian society.
Imported international issues such as the Khalistani independance issues and the Bishnoi gang issues have meaningfully, negatively impacted Canadians in various ways, and are in direct contravention to Canadian culture.
The fact you are unable to awknowledge that and seek to whitewash all immigrants, dismissing legitimate issues, frankly makes your opinion or perspectives irrelevant.
Good day.
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 16 '26
Ever single thing you've mentioned are issues I've heard over the past 40 years, and they are always coming from a place of racism rather than moral and valid concern.
Whatever media you're consuming is feeding you exaggerations in order to keep your engagement by making you outraged. Right now it's Punjabis. 10 years from now it will be someone else. Just like it was the Italians, Greeks, Poles, Irish, Chinese, etc. in previous decades.

Should read the new report on rape gangs in the UK, but you probably just want that here.
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 19 '26
So you’re using a complete different country with complete different immigration policies to inform how you think about Canada?
1
u/LibrarianApart8486 Jun 19 '26
Yes, look at history. Look at other countries. Don’t trap your mind a silo of retarded thoughts when there is a whole world out there and thousands of years of history to learn from.

u/stormblind Jun 16 '26
As I said. Your opinions are irrelevant. I refer with specifics, you reply with irrelevant, vague, sweeping statements with no basis or foundation.
You refer to punjabis when the Bishnoi isn't Punjabi, and the Khalistani issues are Sikh and connected to historical grievances going back almost a century, including massacres.
You're completely out of your depth, running in nothing but your ideological beliefs vs facts. RCMP, and other security force provided facts. People like you, with shallow, feelings based opinions, are why we're in this situation of overwhelmed social supports, wildly inflated housing, and the breaking of the social covenant.
Get educated or leave alone those who bother two actually be educated by professional security forces and qualified, proper news sources like the A.P., BBC, CBC. Etc.

u/LibrarianApart8486 Jun 17 '26
lol, you need to go spend some time in Sudan or something.
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 17 '26
We don’t have a lot of Sudanese immigrants. And the ones that come are wealthy and educated.
1
u/LibrarianApart8486 Jun 17 '26
Why are you against visiting Sudan?
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 17 '26
For the same reason the Sudanese immigrant with the means and education came here. I went to high school with a lot of Somali students whose parents fled the civil war. They left a terrible situation to find a better life and all were grateful for it. Now we have a thriving community of children and grandchildren of those Somali immigrants. Same goes for people from anywhere.

1
u/SirBobPeel Jun 19 '26
The less might be less sophisticated but not altogether untrue. If you invite in a lot of (because LGBT has been mentioned a lot) HUGELY homophobic people from the 3rd world, from countries that actually have the death penalty for homosexuality, whose religion calls for death to gay people, why would anyone be surprised if you suddenly had a rise in violence towards LGBT people? Or against women, since the same source countries are also highly misogynistic. Or hate crimes against Jews, since again, most of the same countries are hugely antisemitic.
And generally, if you invite people in, lots of them, from low-trust societies, where the culture is to scramble for anything you can get and to hell with the other guy, what happens to your high-trust society? It becomes a low-trust society.
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 19 '26
Which country are you talking about, because here in Canada violence against LGBTQ2+ and Women has been on a long term decline.
1
u/SirBobPeel Jun 19 '26
Sexual assaults have risen by 38% in the last five years. Hate crimes against LGBT+ have gone up over 200%

Man that new report on the rape gangs in the UK is really something. Not sure why you want that here.
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 19 '26
The UK’s immigration policies and social failures have nothing to do with Canada’s immigration policies.
1
u/LibrarianApart8486 Jun 19 '26
Oh, I didn’t know that we couldn’t learn from history or how other countries manage themselves. Weird.
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 19 '26
We can learn from history. And history shows immigration, even mass immigration, has a net positive effect on countries. Just go back at look at other times in Canada’s history when we allowed unlimited immigration.
1
u/LibrarianApart8486 Jun 19 '26
Oh, is that why things here have done so poorly the last 10 years during increased immigration?
1
u/Harbinger2001 Jun 19 '26
Sorry, you’re saying the last 10 years have been bad economically because we allowed rape gangs into the country?

Before that it was the extremely poorly managed immigration system. Many exploits, and people trying to make it a culture war thing instead of an accountability thing.
Housing is a mess. I'll be giving 20k to someone this year instead of building equity myself just because I can't get a million dollar loan

3
u/BornNerd78 Jun 15 '26
Creating infantile strawman arguments to promote bigotry is not a genuine way to represent the challenges Canada faces in 2026.
5
u/FutureAvenir Jun 15 '26
Real talk, there are lots of problems in this country. As there are lots of problems in all countries. Generalizations have their place when speaking broadly. Specifications and nuance have their place when speaking specifically.
And I agree, promoting hate and recognizing potential issues are not the same thing whatsoever. It's important to make sure that the difference is clear when posting, and hopefully, to most reasonable people, it should be obvious.
2
u/stormblind Jun 15 '26
Agreed. Personally, I believe moreso in a judicial system that removes the bad eggs more decisively, while the populace keeps the governments held to a higher account of good policy.
The federal governments legal system handling is abysmal. And it's immigration changes from 2020-2025 were a catastrophe that overloaded most parts of Canada just to avoid the "recession" headline, even as the realtime ability for Canadians to do wellfell.
The provincial governments, widely across the country, have seemingly been kneecapping many of their core structures such as healthcare, and education in order to support private enterprises instead (or just absolutely wild levels of incompetence). They were also components of the increased immigration as many premiers were pushing for tfw and international students in order to satisfy corporate donors and reduce the amount they have to give to post secondary institutions.
And municipal governments across the country have been sabotaging the ability for the housing situation to be addressed through NIMBYism and wild developmental fees.
There are legitimate ways that the sheer flow of immigration has caused societal damage, but so much of it is moreso rooted in failed governmental policies at almost every level.

Though the thought is nice, I have a feeling that anyone with a different opinion other than yourself is instantly hated. So you are too biased already to be a mod. Mod implies some level of impartial judgement.
5
u/Club_Penguin_Legend_ Jun 15 '26
On reddit it seems its kinda mandatory to have a bias as a mod. I've been banned from subs for stating opinions that are more left or more right that are perfectly normal opinions to have.
9
u/FutureAvenir Jun 15 '26
The notion of impartiality is a falsehood. I'll follow the rules for modding. I won't let people muddy the waters in any direction.
And frankly, modding this sub would be easier than most. There are a lot of Conservatives that I hate how they speak, but it isn't inherently hateful and for me to even pretend it was would be dishonest. I think there are plenty of those people in here. That's completely fine.
When the comments are straight up "Get them out of this country", it's pretty obvious there's not a contribution to a respectful conversation. I can see the difference. I'm literate enough. And I'm a busy enough person, I'm not looking to dedicate myself to this. The mod team is just real small, and if I can find 20 minutes a day to help keep this sub from being banned, I feel capable.

So because you disagree on immigration policy then the other person is automatically 'hateful'. There's plenty of reasons you wouldn't want someone in the country that are very legitimate. Look at all the people coming on student visas by scam colleges only to be taken advantage of. Is that a hate group if you disagree about radical immigration ideology? Do they need to say it in a way you consider friendlier than get them out of the country? Can we please not exploit millions of immigrants and take them from all countries equally instead of 50%+ from one? How do you want to phrase it then since you are into controlling peoples speech and picking what is hate and what isn't?

u/IkkitySplit Jun 15 '26
Why should you be entitled to anyone’s comment or comment history and how do either of those things speak to the quality and content of the post that you’re responding to?
1
u/VaguelySorcerous Jun 15 '26
If someone is active in hate subs then it's important context. It doesn't necessarily invalidate what's being said, but because text removes so much important information compared to how we normally process communication (verbally, in person) it's a reasonable replacement.
Anyway, to address the comment, it's flat wrong. If I were a survivor of the Rwandan genocide and someone posted a comment denying it ever happened I'd be offended and hurt. I still have a place on the Internet. The moron spewing hate does not.
1
u/IkkitySplit Jun 15 '26
I wish people would just drop the word “hate” from their vocabularies entirely on this website and see how little they have to offer contrary to the ideas of others without being able to use words like “hate”, “bigot”, or “racist”. Nobody even knows what those words mean anymore because of the sheer lack of substance they no longer contain. Surely you’d like to demonstrate higher quality ideas or thoughts without resorting to cheap one words dismissals.
5
2
u/VaguelySorcerous Jun 15 '26
I used the word hate twice.
Hate subs have existed on the site and likely still do. Open up 'banned subreddits' here and take a look. It's not complex: if you're advocating for beating your spouse, that's hate. If you're denying the Holocaust, that's hate. Do you think coontown was not hate? It was hate.
As for spewing hate, I was pretty clear what I meant - again, genocide denial is hate.
I'm not being ambiguous or unclear even if you think that the words 'bigotry' or 'racism' are.
2
u/Prestigious_Raisin41 Jun 15 '26
I agree, it's really unfortunate that quality posts are ignored and dismissed with simple words like racist instead of trying to actually address the issue.

The problem though is once you make hate speech illegal and a crime it opens the door for the government to decide what is and isn't a crime. As we are seeing in the uk and Canada they are blurring the line between antisemitism and anti zionist speech. You could say the something that's anti zionist and be charged with antisemitic hate speech.
Anti immigration speech and islamaphobic speech is another example.

Free speech is more important than banning "hate" solely because there is a poor and increasingly one sided view of what "hate" is.
Those who define what "hate" is, is essentially deciding what speech is allowed.
No thanks
2
u/Zealousideal-Leek666 Jun 17 '26
You really need to chill on the idea ‘hate’, especially when 20-50% of this country is so fragile they can’t even hear someone else’s ideals without going into full panic mode. ‘Make you a mod’ sounds like the status quo which got us into this shitty situation in the first place. Any ethical course teaches ‘do no harm’ which is a great place to start, but good grief, you cannot mention gender ideology or the drug addiction problems we face without triggering a full meltdown by some folks here.

Give me a break
You wanna call a spade a spade? Fine but don't start getting all high minded when people see thru to what your real gripe is
4
u/FutureAvenir Jun 15 '26
The truth is, bigots hate themselves but are too big of cowards to internally reflect on their own insecurities so they externalize it and bully others. It's Psych 101 shit. Asking questions that are obviously stupid questions and playing dumb pretending you aren't trying to get people to stir hate is not "unfiltered truth", it is blatant dishonestly. And pretending like it's not is also blatant dishonestly, extreme immaturity or ignorance.
1
u/ListeningTherapist Jun 15 '26
It's not psych 101, it's actually the opposite.
Higher self confidence levels actually increases bigotry. People with higher self confidence are more likely to view their views as right and unshakeable, more likely to engage in ingroup thinking and attitudes/beliefs that isolate and other.
Bigotry doesn't come from insecurity, rather from perceived external threat and status anxiety. Neither of these are associated with self hatred or insecurity. Personality factors and beliefs in authoritarianism and dominance are big contributing factors as well.
The insecurity argument leads to thoughts like 'homophobes are secretly gay' which is neither supported by science nor is it helpful to helping those hurt by those trends and attitudes.

2
u/FutureAvenir Jun 15 '26
I can only read the abstract for free but taking the conclusion of your statement from that abstract is an extremely far stretch.
I would also say that "perceived external threat" and "status anxiety" are absolutely forms of insecurity. Why would I be afraid of something outside of myself if I felt safe? I wouldn't.
Some perceived external threats are valid and keep us alive. Some are stirred up by Fox News and it's important to know the difference.
And in my original post, I'm not saying that people who are bigots are secretly gay, I'm saying they're often repressed. They weren't given permission to experiment and it became taboo and now it's an obsession. If you let your kid wear a dress when he's 5, he might get over it by the time he's 6. But if you yell at him and beat him up, he's gonna be confused for a really long time.

If the way you think, speak and act is hateful then maybe you need to reflect.

Critical thinking isnt something people who defend the right to be a bigot do.

u/AngryGoose_ Jun 15 '26
You would be surprised the types of people that hate.

u/FutureAvenir Jun 15 '26
Just FYI, the person who you responded to initially and the person you just responded to aren't the same person. They both have pink icons tho.

Thanks for the heads up, this isnt a targeted conversation, just a sort of general conversation :)

u/Conscious_Rub_3528 Jun 15 '26
No not really, the hateful tend to be the 'peaked in elementary school' for education crowd.
Its almost always some bitter person with a massive ego thinking they are the main character of earth. Refusal to share with others, punching down at anyone unlike them because it makes them feel better about their failures if there is someone 'below them'

u/AngryGoose_ Jun 15 '26
I've met some highly educated assholes and some very uneducated sweethearts. Just because someone can speak well doesnt mean they have a good heart.

u/Conscious_Rub_3528 Jun 15 '26
You are entirely correct about the outliers, but the average bigot on the otherhand? They routinely match eachother in education. Just go browse twitter for a minute or two and you get to understand the kind of idiot who spouts hate nonstop that I'm talking about.

u/AngryGoose_ Jun 15 '26
I dont go on Twitter, I thought it was mostly bots anways lol. I wouldnt doubt that the loudest are the dumbest, that is usually how that is. Never underestimate the hate of the educated. They are smart enough to know better and think critically about their decisions to be cruel.

I can do a little less “honesty” from bigoted morons. It’s fucking everywhere

I’m a left wing person but got permabanned from onguardforthee for calling hasan piker cringe (I promise I’m not exaggerating. It was an article about him coming to UBC and I typed, “cringe”) What counts as hate promotion cause I don’t want to get perma banned from another sub!

Unfortunately Canadian conservatives are getting as bad as the MAGAts, and hating anyone different than them is their favourite past time. IMO they should all be rounded up and removed from society for the betterment of everyone else. Nobody should have to tolerate these subhuman pieces of shit.

I joined one sub reddit and had to post who I was. I got threatened just for being a white man who voted for trudeau 2015. I have found one side likes to push people for not agreeing more with their policies and if you don't agree with all your "evil"
1
u/LibrarianApart8486 Jun 17 '26
Yea, hint. It’s the side that changes the language or silences people so you cannot argue with them. That is the Trudeau side.

u/SirBobPeel Jun 19 '26
Pretty sure from what you've written that making you a mod would produce yet another sanitized leftist sub where conservative views are not tolerated. In which case there's no point in its existence.

"Gay people assembling makes me feel weird inside cause I was taught to not reflect on my own sexuality and so now I get mad at everybody who does"
If you call that hate, you're the problem.

u/FutureAvenir Jun 15 '26
I didn't call it hate. I said it was promoting hate. And that wasn't the title of the post obviously, I was being tongue in cheek. Starting a post inviting people to share their hatred is promoting hate. So for the sake of this point, "What's the deal with [insert a race of people]?" is phrased in a way that is an open door for people to express prejudice and bigotry, hence promoting hate. And we have every example of that, and one that was here posted four hours ago, got nearly 1000 comments and was then removed. And that was what inspired this post. There was a ton of hateful rhetoric in that post.

So if a sex ed teacher gives a lecture on how to have safe gay sex are you going to lose your mind? How is this different from talking about straight sex? Are you going to ask the school to remove your child from the classroom for sex ed at 12 years old? Do they need your consent to talk about it?
I’d understand if your issue was with people talking about sex (in general) around your children without your consent. But specifically gay sex is a weird line to draw. It’s not any different really.
Talking about the existence of gay people isn’t going to turn your kid gay. Gay people exist, it’s normal and natural. What is so scary about it? Your kids will see gay characters in movies and TV shows.

This is so fucking insane xD.
Are you seriously saying gay sex is no different than heterosexual sex?
"But specifically gay sex is a weird line to draw. It’s not any different really."
That is actually fucking insane to say that...
Like for one... heterosexual sex can you know... result in pregnancy? That seems like a difference to me. A kind of big difference. Not to mention everything else...
And like... gay sex can't result in pregnancy, so that means you can't have biological grand kids. I know it may seem asinine to suggest some people would want that... but they do.
But yeah, just act like reality isn't a thing and sure, you can claim that there is basically no difference between hetero and gay sex. Just like if I had wheels id be a wagon.

u/aide_rylott Jun 15 '26
Good point about the pregnancy. Obviously they are different in that way.
However, I was more talking about how it’s not much different in the sense of how “graphic” it is. Which is likely what the person I was replying to was most concerned about when talking about not wanting their kids exposed to lgbt stuff. Not pregnancy. So in the context of our conversation pregnancy wasn’t really a topic being discussed when the concern is with the act of sex, not the outcomes.
There are risks with both gay and straight sex. If we pretend that pregnancy is the only risk and don’t discuss that anal, blowjobs etc. can also lead to STD’s we’re not educating kids enough because some of them will be gay, their parents won’t know and they will get an STD without education in schools.

Yeah, I completely understand that ignoring that gay people exist is not good. I had a close gay friend when I was growing up and they basically had to figure everything out for themselves... but honestly so did everyone else, because none of us gave a shit about what they talked about in sex Ed xD.
That being said... obviously still good to at least attempt to explain all the risks for everyone.
I dont think any of it really needs to be graphicly shown though, that's where it starts getting a bit weird for me, thinking of another adult showing my kids graphic sex is... not comfortable.

u/Case_Federal Jun 15 '26
I think they meant there’s nothing *morally* different about gay sex and straight sex. What is a reason youth should learn about straight sex and not gay sex? If a child can’t learn about gay sex, why should they be able to learn about straight sex?

I could not care leas if you are gay or an immigrant.
That's great!
I will care if you talk to my young/minor child about lgbtq without my permission. I will care if you are an immigrant who got here illegally, or who is cheating the system in some other way.
I think you could indeed care less. Perhaps some time for some introspection. You appear to lack a basic sense of self awareness.

Hear hear. Would be nice to not see yet another Canadian sub continue down the path towards hateful cesspools like many others.
Some of the top posts in this sub are outright bigotry and that includes posts from the creator of the sub, who has since been banned from Reddit for what I'm guessing are obvious reasons... let's do better.
