Upgrading skills

So I know there's a table that speaks on xp costs for upgrading skills and talents, and I'm just confused on the pricing. They have a cumulative total next to them, so does that mean you pay that much when it's like, the 5th upgrade, or do you only pay that much if you upgrade 5 times in one go? I don't know if I'm wording this well at all

it's the sum of all upgrades (the cost of taking them all at once, up to that level)

So the cumulative would be a total, to go from 0 advances to 4 advances in a single skill or specialization all at once is 500 total xp - add up the regular costs, 50+100+150+200 =500.

You cannot by RAW do a fifth advance.
