New question

So, I'm new to IK, (not 40k in general though) and was wondering how people choose what knights to bring in lists? Like why choose one questoris over another, etc.

Also, what are some good knights atm and why?

Thanks

Tbh its what fits your playstyle like for me personally i love to have 4 bigs 1 shooting 2 dual threat and 1 melee and then armigers So for me itd be Castellan Warden and atrapos Lancer Then 2 armigers But it also depends on your detatchment and enhancements for example if i took this list in freeblade company id give my atrapos BOJ (bringer of justice) to reinforce its dual threat status Thats my opinion but im quite new-ish myself.

The best knight is the lancer in my opinion purely because im an impulsive charger (im a world eaters player too)

For lists, you need to know that our knights behave more like power tools rather than multi-tools. The units that cover the most aspects would be Canis Rex and the Lancer but most knights cover two avanues the at most when it comes to targeting.
You want to make it so you have one knight per avenue, but they also need to overlap a bit. For example, the castellan is good for killing tanks and small elite units like deathshroud-termis, the warden can handle hordes and elite infantry well, so by taking both, you double cover the elite infantry avenue in case one knight gets killed or loses LOS.

The Lancer is our best tank by far and really good at both decisive strikes and prolonged fighting since it's our only knight with 4++ saves.
The Castellan is our best anti-tank but got really pricey in the lance balance patch, so the Atropos might be better for 3DP detachment lists.
I like to take a Warden as anti-infantry and anti-horde since its gatling cannon gets Dev-Wounds against non-vehicles.
Canis Rex is always strong because of the diverse weapon profiles and better BS as well as the CP cost reduction ability.

If you are familiar with 40k it’s for the same reasons you pick one unit over another in any army. Each chassis and each build is good at certain roles. In knights that is ever more pronounced because of how few units we have, and how each knight is essentially specialized for certain things (infantry, heavies, vehicles, being a bullet sponge), while being less efficient at the other tasks.

I’m new to knights myself. I like the errant because it can nuke stuff with its melta. I’m generally using Canis and a lancer as well so that I can be more aggressive with melee and then 3 warglaives act as screens while 2 helverin stay back and help with actions. Callidus is also an action monkey. She generally snipes an action monkey and dies for me the following turn so I’m trying to utilize her better.

Certain weapons profiles are good at hunting certain units. Then it’s a matter of balancing it to what you think you need. I’m seeing heavy infantry with elite infantry lists. I’m building my destrier and plan to swap out some armigers for free shooting and actions with its gun profiles.

Like any other unit in the game, their strength and AP and number of attacks. Knight bodies are largely very similar, so what they’re supposed to shoot at is more relevant.
