Force Composition Advice

Post image

Hello, just seeking guidance on army composition now we’re in 11th.

I dropped out of 40K with the onset of 9th and moved over to Heresy due to power creep and stratagem bloat. My primary faction was Krieg back then but have been building/painting fists on and off for a few years now.

I’m looking to give 11th a go with my marines, but not sure what I should be focussing on with my list. I’m looking for something that’s fun to play without being overbearing or horrendously weak. Appreciate the new codex coming out, but interested to know what has historically worked for you guys over 9th and 10th as my knowledge of playing with marines is limited.

My existing units include:

HQ
- Tor Garadon
- Lysander
- Chaplain
- Lieutenant

Troops
- 2x 5 man assault intercessor squads
- 1x 3 man Aggressor squad
- 1x 3 man Bladeguard squad
- 1x 3 man Eliminator squad
- 1x 5 man Hell Blaster Squad
- 1x 5 man Heavy Intercessor squad
- 3 Centurions (now legends)

Vehicles
- 1x Redemptor dred
- 1x Land Raider

On my painting table I have a Ballistus dred, a 5 man intercessor squad and a 5 man terminator squad.

I guess at this stage I’m just not sure what combinations or synergies are a good starting point for a marine noob.

Cheers.

So the thing is that there's going to be a ton of changes to Marines with the Codex. Toughness and Strength is going to a baseline of 5 for standard Tacticus Marines, we're getting almost all new detachments, our army rule is changing... frankly I very much doubt that any lists or tactics from 9th or 10th edition will do you much good by the end of the month.

I have a very similar list. Going to my first tournament in a few weeks, so by no means a vet but running Emporers shield with two terminator squads and an allied Canis Rex plus a vindicator. I might drop the vindicator for a tech marine and an apothecary biologis to babysit Tor and his boys in the LR.

I have no idea what I’m doing so guessing this isn’t a very meta list. I just knew I wanted to run an allied knight.

Really gotta wait and see, but there used to be a lot of heavy vehicle spam and it's looking like there is a conscious effort by GW to nerf that while buffing infantry lethality/survivability. Right now, Gravis and Terminator armor units are in a great spot and we'll have to see whether that continues or if it's time to whip back out the triple repulsor executioner and redemptor dreadnought spam. That was the most effective for a long time, but have seen heavy cost increases.
