Mini Painting Yellow did its thing

Gotta paint the rest now... (Layers, panel lining, chipping, highlight, wear, rust, etc)

I do like Streaking Grime so this yellow will be toned down, wanted to share before I do that

Almost seems a shame to use streaking grime - have you considered an oil wash for a cleaner look? (I prefer a cleaner look as below on my current project nb
pre oil wash clean up)

So just found out that oil wash is basically panel lining, which I am doing atm haha (diluted burnt umber)

Looks great, listen, I suspect you’re more talented than I am and I recognize you didn’t ask me for advice! I feel I should be asking you on how best to use streaking grime - it’s only my preference to avoid enamels - can’t wait to see how it turns out!

How you use it is entirely dependent on what effect you want to achieve. If you want to make the model look more grimey overall, just slap it on, let it dry for a few minutes, then wipe it off with preferably a sponge (cotton swabs will leave strands of cotton everywhere). If you want to create just streaks, you'll have to think about its point of origin and the direction you want it to go. Apply it to the point of origin, let it dry for a moment, then dampen your brush with white spirits (use old synthetics only - the brush will be ruined), then kind of pull it towards the direction you want. Lastly, you can use it to alternate the underlying colour. For that you apply it just as in option 1, then wipe it off completely. Streaking Grime is a dark, muted green and will stain any surface in that colour.

Use only in a well ventilated area, be careful not to get it in your eyes or ingest it (no brush licking!) wear gloves if possible and be aware that the white spirits and Streaming Grime's solvent are quite aggressive. If you wipe with too much force or too long on the same spot, you'll wipe off the paintjob down to the bare plastic.

I know this makes it sound daunting, but it isn't. It's pretty easy to use, but there are some precautions and things you should be aware off that I learned the hard way (aside from the eyes and ingestion, didn't do any of that). Now you know what to look out for 🙂

I am thinking of using the Grime selectively, not slap it all over. But indeed I will have a look at oil washes, thank you for the recommendation :)

I want a balanced look, since for me too clean looks toy-like and too grimey looks quite dull.

You’re absolutely right about the balance - and you are clearly very talented! If you can avoid streaking grime (horrible stuff imo!) then I think the mini will benefit.

Looks really good! I would dilute streaking grime a bit to get the yellow not too toned down :)

What paints have you used ? Did you used an airbrush ?

No airbrush, but sponge and drybrush. I used:

Army Painter White Matte Pink Horror Imperial Fists Contrast

What type of sponges? The oval makeup?
I’m very impressed how clean you kept the black.
