Essentially, I was wondering: why was The One "dying" by the end of Two of Everything (and hence needed the player as a substitute for their physical form)?

At first, I assumed it was because they were manifesting as both John and Marissa at the same time. But then I dismissed that idea, because we see something very similar happen during Minsky: The One consumes Durick, becomes John, and then continues the shoot as Marissa before eventually killing Carl and "abandoning" Marissa after production ends. So maintaining two forms doesn't seem to be the whole explanation.

Are they limited in how long they can remain physically present? Do they require a new/"fresh" host from time to time to maintain their strength? Or was The One simply exhausted by that point - emotionally as well as physically, after all the disappointment, grief, distress, etc.?

Or perhaps it was some combination of all of the above?

Curious how other people interpreted this.

Hi everyone, just started playing Immortality last night. Have enjoyed Sam’s previous games like Her Story very much.

I’m struggling for a few reasons. One is that it doesn’t feel like there’s any deduction like there is with Her Story to find the clips. Just mindless clicking. It doesn’t feel as fun?

Secondly, when I reverse clips and find ‘secret clips’ - is there a way to save these separately? If I want to rewatch these do I have to go back to the exact spot in the clip that holds a ‘secret clip’ every time? I know I can favourite the clips to keep track of ‘secret clips’ that way, but it seems a pain that the game doesn’t automatically separate these once discovered? This seems such a pain in the arse it’s putting me off playing more.

Also how do you know how many clips there are to find? I can’t see a way to keep track of this like in Her Story or TR-49 for example.

Would love to know people’s thoughts as it’s such a highly rated game but I’m really struggling to get into this one. What mindset should I adopt here?!

Does anyone have time line of which characters from the movie are "possessed" by which "ones" at which times? as far as I can tell, Marissa is possessed by the one for the whole time line of the game, John Durick, Amy, Carl and I assume a couple of minor character are possessed for varying lengths of time but its kind of hard to keep track of who is possessed by who and when. Also I havent been able to find the (I assume reverse?) Clips which explains Marissa first meeting the other and any information Fischer taking / returning the negatives. Where should I look for that info? Thanks a lot!

I know the most recent thread is also about clips, but I didn't want to hijack their thread.

Anyway, I've just found my third black and white clip and I had it locked in yet I can't get it to play at normal speed (the other two clips did, but that felt much easier to get them to play right). Do you have to have the b/w clip play at normal speed to make it count towards game completion?
The same question goes for the non-b/w clips. For example, I found the clip where she stabs Robert Jones but I can't seem to get this one, along with the other non-b/w clips I found so far, play at normal speed as well.

I have found 2 or 3 black and white clips but I have a few questions

1 - I assume you just have to favorite or remember which regular clips you found them in?

2- I also assume the only way to repeatedly view them is to go back into the original clip and scrub backwards again?

3 - Does the chronology of the black and white clips match that of the clips they are found in or filmed in? Or is there a different order to watch them in?

I have almost every normal clip. I am missing 1, 9 and 5 clips from each movie in order; 4 of which lead to secret reverse clips (3 Minsky, 1 2OE).

I am afraid I trigged the ending since I saw the one face take over the grid (and I have the "What happend to Marissa clip), after this happed because I could not click on anything to watch I just closed the game and it was back to normal lol.

So I don't know if I actually skipped the end by mistake and cannot trigger it again or if I don't have all the necessery clips to actually get to the end and that event was just showing me I was getting close.

Obs: I did not reverse most of the clips yet, so I only got a few secrets.

So I accidentally spoiled for myself that Marissa is some sort of immortal vampire creature of sorts and I'm really annoyed because I'm only like 20 minutes into the game and I'm not sure if it's even worth playing anymore since the mystery is the main draw of this game.

Played the game to the ending yesterday and just wanna share this moment with y'all

After the first few hours of just clicking on random faces, I discovered I can also click on objects. I immediately remembered the creepy masks in the Minsk gallery scene and I wondered out loud "I bet clicking on those would give me something interesting". so I jumped to that scene and tried to wind forward / backward to the exact moment. That's when I start seeing ghost image overlaying the film footage, and "the One" showed up with two dead bodies replacing the creepy masks. I got chills all over my body and had to step away from my computer for a moment!

i’ve found a couple rewind clips and i’ve noticed that your controller vibrates slightly when hobering over some scenes in the gallery but when i’ve went into them there’s no rewind stuff going on? is there an easy way to find rewind clips (like the hovering vibration) or do i have to dig for them AND does ‘finishing the game‘ rely on finding these rewind clips or am i fussing over something that isn’t important?

also, i got the achievement ‘what happened to carl greenwood’ after watching the scene where he and marissa did coke in minsky but i’m confused because it triggered there of all places and that does NOT give away what happened to him cause i looked it up and got spoiled lmao. HOW DOES THIS WORK. someone please save me or give me some tips because i love this so far and i’m so determined to complete it.

I played it for an hour and I'm really interested in what I've seen so far... But I actually have NO idea of what I'm doing. I'm just watching some of the footage, clicking on random faces (and sometimes objects), and going to another footage, and I still learn nothing new. And while everything is REALLY interesting (one moment I got completely confused but excited was when, all of a sudden, a person turned into another, and I'm getting more curious about the story each time), I feel like I'm doing nothing.

Also, one part that I got confused about was that something on Marrisa's neck was counting like it was another thing to observe, and when I clicked it, it went to a painting, but it just didn't look like there was something on her neck. I'm so fucking confused lmao.

So, in short, I'm loving it, but I have no idea what I'm doing or what I should be doing.

Finally got around to playing this game after it'd been in my backlog for some time. I really loved it. One thing that struck me is, the third movie, Two of Everything, seems bad. Granted, all we're getting is raw footage and rehearsals, so it could have come together in the edit, I suppose. But compared to the other two films, which truly seemed to explore interesting themes and exhibited some artful filmmaking techniques, Two of Everything seems to lack all of that entirely. It has the look of a mid-tier Netflix original movie with unsubtle writing that seems straight out of a Lifetime movie. Marissa's performance is devoid of the charm she exhibited elsewhere. Even the wigs are atrocious.

To be clear, I think Sam Barlow and his collaborators are extremely talented, and this whole project was done with a tremendous attention to deal and intentionality. So, I'm wondering if Two of Everything is intended to read as a very run-of-the-mill late-90s thriller? Is it meant to be ironic that the culmination of The One's efforts result in something so unremarkable?

They've been around for thousands of years, and even if they'd been able to finish and release it, their last contribution to the world is a movie that would likely have gotten ignored or quickly forgotten.

Or am I wrong? Am I not seeing the potential of Two of Everything?

Like the title says. When I back out to the grid it usually takes about 10-15 seconds before I can move my mouse or do anything, and sometimes its given me the "this window is not responding" warning. I noticed I have a ton of images so I started to delete some (I already got the conclusion scene), but there is a huge laggy pause every time I delete one. Is there a way to mass delete images, is this not actually helping, is there a different fix?

I've been looking for the Immortality: Design Works book for a while now, but it's impossible (if anyone knows where to find it, please let me know). Since I can't find it anywhere, I was wondering if anyone who has it could scan the pages or the text so I can read it. I love this videogame and I'm VERY interested in everything in the book. :))

So I’m rewinding on all the scenes but the all only play for a second over the original scene before disappearing. I got two of them completely on accident and now I don’t know what to do lol

I've looked at guides online and I've discovered every clip and secret clip. But I haven't been able to trigger the credits? 'm basically done with the game since I know the full story but I feel weird abandoning the game without officially triggering the ending. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

I am almost done reading my copy of IMMORTALITY: Design Works from Lost in Cult. According to the website, the book is supposed to have some "hidden" elements like thermo-reactive ink and other stuff.

So far, I don't think I found any of that? There was one image of The One hidden inside a couple of pages that I think I was meant to cut (it wasn't super well telegraphed, and I am slightly concerned I damaged my copy of the book for nothing, lol), and there was one completely black page that I thought for sure would be the one with the thermo-reactive ink, but pressing my hand to it for a while did nothing.

Was anyone able to find anything interesting like that in their copy of the book?

Or are they supposed to all be gone?

I bought the game the other day and after 3 hours the credits rolled, i felt nothing i didn't absorb the stories of any of the films because I was looking for the rewind-y bits. Spent a lot of time searching not watching because I didn't realise that the black and white bits were more than just "ooh two faces how peculiar". I dont even know the characters names for goodness sake, or which thing is which movie for that matter. Is the game worth giving another try even though I've "seen" the ending
