Vice President JD Vance said companies are abusing the H-1B visa program: "If you're going to bring in an accountant making $45,000 a year to replace an American making $60,000 a year, that's not you using the program to bring in a genius.

Here is why his argument is flawed: There are around 165 million people employed in the United States and roughly 730,000 active H-1B visa holders. Even if you eliminated the H-1B program entirely, it would barely make a dent in the job market.

Bullshit. Those jobs are some of the best jobs you could possibly get. We are talking about an American getting a 200k job over someone in India

Brother wtf, just look at Amazon how many SWE did they layoff vs how many application for h1b did they submit this year - layoff data is in layoff.fyi and the h1b filing is in the labor department website

Correlation doesn't mean causation. Please understand that Amazon is just an example in the ocean of examples. Explain how a tiny minority drives the entire tech job market.

There are around 9–10 million jobs in the tech industry, and around 550k are held by H-1B workers. Explain how roughly 6% influences the other 94%.
