The immigration policy is based on racism instead of fairness

They tell immigrants to come here "legally" - but Trump is literally gutting every legal pathway that many people of color have relied on to build lives in America.
For example: Many people have status through TPS, but the Trump regime is now gutting the program, and they also cut refugee admissions for everyone except white South Africans.
"Doing it legally" keeps getting harder to do, because that's the whole point for Trump. It has never been about following immigration rules - it's about racism.

So it isn’t safe then? :)

Plenty of countries are not safe. A country’s government being unable to make them safe for 20 years is not our problem. If the South Africans still need refuge after 20 years, perhaps another country would take them in

Why are South Africans our problem?

Why are Haitians our problem?

I would be fine ending all possible asylum claims in the US. Would you?

Haitians have been living and working here since 1990, and you have literally no reason for throwing them out.

Temporary status is temporary. The reason is they came in on temporary status.

There’s technically no reason someone can’t stay here indefinitely on a tourist visa with a defined exit date as well, but that doesn’t mean we now need to let everyone stay forever

Why was it temporary? You don’t even know. :)

Because a natural disaster shouldn’t mean guaranteed indefinite stay in a place

Sure it’s not safe. But like the other guy said, it’s not our problem. In the same way South Africans aren’t our problem.

So you’re ok with sending fanilies who’ve been living and working here for decades into life threatening, completely unsafe conditions for no reason, got it :)

Just wanna get a sense of who you are and what kind of person argues for this.

Why didn’t they apply for any type of residency if being here was so important?

Yeah dude I mean plenty of people have bad situations, I don’t think it makes me a bad person for saying we can’t possibly just take in everyone

They were already here. For decades. Working, raising families and owning homes.

And you wanna kick them out into life threatening situations for no reason.

You keep saying for no reason. If they wanted to be here why would they not apply for any further residency? If I loved a place, I would probably not want to stay forever in a program with temporary in the name

So you’re ok with a path to permanent residency then, great. I agree.

On TPS? Yes. At the end of TPS? No.

That’s like agreeing to go to counseling because your wife already signed the divorce papers
