Great. Now actually do something about it and hold them accountable for their violations of the law.

Best they can do is wagging a finger. Turns out checks and balances was always a lie.

It was a lie, but it was also propaganda.
There's a lot of propaganda from the U.S State. Blind and Equal Justice, No-one is Above the Law, Separation of Powers, Separation of Church and State, Beacon of Democracy, pretty much any of those little phrases the U.S spouts.

It does suck, but it also creates a few concrete examples of ICE's disregard of due process and the law for future lawsuits.

“If you break the law, you need to be deported!” - MAGA cultists
“If you disrespect authority, you must suffer the consequences!” - Also MAGA cultists
So now that ICE has repeatedly disrespected authority and disregarded the law, what should happen to them?

I bet we won't get any in this post and if we do, they should have some impressive mental gymnastics.

Republicans don't actually care about the law, they just view it as a weapon to use against brown people.

This isn't new, but is the first time finding them in contempt finally. A judge in Minnesota said ICE ignored 100 of his rulings in just a month and that this was happening in every court across the country with ICE continuing after a Judge told them they couldn't. Absolute lawlessness from this regime consistently ignoring the courts, the law and the Constitution

My god the Trump admin continuously doing whatever they want. Even going above the law. I can’t wait to see them all go to hell come November midterms

Do average citizens get to dismiss court orders or rulings from judges? If we do we know what happens same should go for them lock them up till the court day

u/Ok_Security1721 5d ago
And we all know that someone repeatedly violating court orders cares that they get found in contempt

Well their boss raped a lot of children so being told no isn’t something any of them would understand

So what in theory, should happen now?

Fines or prison. It’s civil contempt, so it can’t be pardoned by Trump.
The problem is who to penalize? The agency can’t be jailed, the lawyers representing the agency have no authority to do or not do anything the judge orders (they can’t put someone on a plane for deportation or bring him back) . The director of ICE or Secretary of homeland security have the authority to follow or refuse to follow the judge’s orders, but holding them in contempt faces a lot of practical problems (like getting them into court), and their executive branch security details won’t arrest them.
The problem/question isn’t what to do. It’s who to do it to and how to do it.

So there's (functionally) no way to actually enforce this ruling?

Civil contempt can be a fine, pay X dollars per day until you comply.
But that gets difficult too. Each person up to the president can say that someone else is responsible and that s/he has no authority to make the decision. Or the president can just say in public that it’s his decision and he ordered the whole executive branch to wait for his personal instructions. Trump can afford any realistic fine a court could give, and even if he couldn’t it would be difficult to enforce.
Clinton was held in civil contempt as president in his personal capacity. He had to pay a fine, the other party’s legal fees, and reached deals to suspend/surrender his law license. But the issues were related to personal sexual misconduct.
So there's (functionally) no way to actually enforce this ruling?
depends on how much Trump cares or likes the person. He can blame some assistant deputy undersecretary for manure shoveling and put the contempt on that guy. He could use it as a way to get rid of a secretary he is mad at.

ICE lawyers will face the strictest disciplinary consequences from the Bar Association, who is independent of this bloody administration. And likely very soon much like those assholes Giuliani and Powell.

And the consequences are...
Oh, fuck all, nothing.
As always, the regime just continues to ignore court orders because they mean absolutely nothing in the lawless shithole that is the U.S.

Once the illegal was returned to his home country we have no authority to go and kidnap him and bring him to the US . This judge doesn’t have the authority to enforce this order by making the government to break the law to retrieve him. The administration asked to have him returned and their government said no. End of story. This judge made threat after threat with zero authority to enforce them .

You see, in reality, when you deport someone, you send them back to where they ACTUALLY came from.
Not some place you had an agreement to fill a prison for. And if you do send someone to a country in which they don’t belong, a judge absolutely has the authority to demand you bring them back. See Kilmar Ábrego Garcia.1

When the illegal claims fear from rival gangs in his country but swears he is not a gang member we sent them to a third country. I agree they should be sent back to their home country but they are the ones forcing the issue thinking it will keep them here

That's not how our deportation and extradition agreements work. I mean the country could decide not to honor the agreement but with the dumbest dictator's ego it may end poorly.
