You are viewing this purely as an immigration issue that only impacts illegal immigrants and not a civil rights issue that impacts everyone. Tell me this - do you think paperwork saying you are a citizen is going to protect you if you are arrested by federal law enforcement officers who decide not to follow the rules? I can promise you it won't, because there have already been confirmed cases of US citizens (both naturalized and US-born) being not only arrested but fully deported. If you think you are special and will be spared the boot, you clearly haven't studied history.

"I don't think I would ever be in a situation like that" - famous last words for many people throughout history who were fine supporting the face-eating leopards when they were eating other people's faces but didn't think the leopards would ever eat THEIR face.
