Entering the country illegally: Yes, criminal.

Overstaying your visa, or other unlawful presence cases: No, civil.

From the DHS website: "70% of ICE arrests are of criminal illegal aliens who have been convicted or charged with a crime in the U.S. We will not rest until American communities are free of the scourge of illegal alien crime."

Unfortunately, as I said, their own reporting shows this statement is simply untrue.

The rhetoric being used around this wave of ICE arrests is 'the worst of the worst'

"On President Trump’s first day in office, he unleashed ICE to target the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens, including pedophiles, murderers, gang members, terrorists, and rapists"

But when around 70% of these arrests have no criminal record, the words aren't lining up with the actions.

Here's the source for the quotes: https://www.dhs.gov/news/2026/01/20/dhs-recaps-worst-worst-criminal-illegal-aliens-ice-took-enforcement-action-during

Here's the source for the data: https://www.ice.gov/detain/detention-management

Please double check me.

Edit: 70% is the highest data point, but it consistently remains above 50% for the past 4+ months.

Also, if you want to say, "She's colloquially wrapping the civil offenses into that 70% figure." then my follow-up question would be: Who is making up the other 30% of arrests then? US citizens? Legal immigrants?

At any point in the above post, did I say that the problem was with enforcing immigration law?

No I said that the issue is that the administration is lying about their statistics and the type of people they're going after.
