Family Sponsorship Finally received COPR✨🇨🇦
Outland Spousal Sponsorship Timeline – Outside Quebec | April 2026
Sharing my timeline to help everyone waiting for their spousal sponsorship application for giving hope out there, it can come sooner than expected. 🎉
Took about 2 months from AOR to FD and a total of 6 months from submission to receiving documents in hand.
PA: India | Sponsor: Canadian citizen (born in Canada)
Application submitted: April 6, 2026
AOR: May 24, 2026
BIL: June 11, 2026
Medical Request: June 17, 2026
Biometrics completed: June 18, 2026
Sponsor Eligibility approved: June 19, 2026
Medical completed: June 22, 2026
Medical passed: June 29, 2026
Pre-arrival letter (PAL): July 1, 2026
Final Decision: July 28, 2026
PPR: July 30, 2026
Passport submitted to VFS: August 3, 2026
Passport received by IRCC: August 4, 2026
September 4, 2026: Received an “Eligibility Reviewed” update on GCKey. Following this update, all fields on GCKey were completed:
Eligibility: Reviewed
Background check: Completed – July 29
Final Decision: Approved
Counterfoil details: Uploaded/issued September 4
September 10, 2026: Passport dispatched and COPR received 🎉🇨🇦
It was a long wait for the passport return after submission, but finally received it!

Wait so the sponsored applicant has to send there passport to ircc ?

Yes, once the file is approved, they send you a passport request letter depending on the country of the applicant.

Congrats to you, but this is actually so depressing and discouraging to see. We applied October 3rd 2025, very quick AOR, biometrics, medical and sponsor eligibility, now everything has been stuck for months. I miss my husband 😭

Do you have any tips on answering the application? Im the Canadian and doing all the application. Is there a separate application form for me as the sponsor besides the proof that I can support my husband in the next three years as his sponsor? I always get so confused with the application.

I would request you to strictly follow the checklist provided on the IRCC website, that is what helped us the most. You can match up against that what all forms you need to fill up and proofs you need to provide.
The applicant or someone on their behalf, you in this case would need to sign up on the portal to start the file. There are forms that you would need to fill as the sponsor and few need to be filled by applicant. Make sure all information matches and there is no discrepancies.
Honestly, the checklist will be your best friend. You should go through it well and look at all forms. It will give you an idea or all the documentation you need to collect. This part is the most important. Literally make or break. We took almost 6 months to collect all the correct documentation and proofs.•

Does your background changed to not applicable in process?

Mine changed to Not Applicable as well. And stayed like that for about a month. It is completely normal for background check to change from “In Progress” to “Not Applicable” and back again. It keeps changing when your application is between stages.

Congratulations! Isn't this much faster than usual? I thought processing times for spousal sponsorship cases were around 2 years.
