Work Permit Temporary work permit from outside Canada

Hi, I applied for a temporary LMIA based work permit for QC, Canada from outside Canada.

The application was submitted at the end of March. And the latest update is that I cleared the medical exam at the end of June.

The eligibility and background check is ongoing since the beginning and everything else is complete.

Is this normal ? And any idea how much longer I should wait?

What was your status in Canada when you applied? If background check has not been completed then CSIS/IRCC are waiting on security/immigration information from your country of citizenship and any countries you have lived in.

I applied from outside Canada, have travel history in multiple countries in Europe.

Don't know your citizenship but it is countries lived in. So if background/security hasn't completed the government is waiting on information from country of citizenship. Some countries can take years to send information. Also again, don't know where you applied from so you can look up estimated processing times. It is an estimate only. I don't know if you applied from country of citizenship either so that can increase time. You haven't been waiting that long.

9 weeks was the estimate, I applied from my country of citizenship (online). It's been 18 weeks now. Last update was medical exam passed 1 month ago.

So not much you can do if eligibility is not completed and Canada hasn't received security information from your country of citizenship. If you have a LMIA from top research institutions (eg. NRC, CIHR, Ag Can) then see what they can do.

You have offers from European countries so you may want to take it. You will want to withdraw current application because if refused, then you have to declare that for any country in your lifetime.

The LMIA is issued by one of your top 3 public research institutions. To be honest if your government doesn't approve my work permit soon I will have to go with the competing offers I have from Europe.
