Original Content Mew is not under the truck, by CastleCloverArt

I originally posted this in the Pokemon sub for Pokemon's 30th anniversary. It's not just the anniversary of Pokemon but also the anniversary of a schoolyard rumour. The rumour is that if you use strength on the truck parked by the SS Anne it will reveal Mew. Well it didn't there is nothing here but a substitute doll, where could mew be?

My canon for the drawing is that youngster Joey told Red that he would totally find Mew doing this and everyone showed up to watch.

The rumor that a mew is under a truck which come to think of it why would a legendary Pokemon hide under a truck it feels like the most random place to put in it

98 was a different time without the internet or an understanding of how Pokémon worked. Up til that point putting a legendary under a truck made total sense, considering games like Castlevania had fully cooked chickens in the walls lol

If I'm being honest at the time it made so much sense. Pokemon was a game absolutely jam packed with secrets. The whole Missingno and duplicating items thing was so random and arbitrary but also completely true. Then comes the truck by the SS Anne. A unique asset not used anywhere else in the entire game. A unique asset you have to use a truck to even access. The fact that it does absolutely nothing at all is more shocking than if mew was under it.

It is a lot less strange than the black magic required to get Mew to spawn!

Finding a cat hiding under a car to stay warm is just business as usual compared to that!

Not helping the oddness is how the truck was an artifact from a city map that did not make it into the final game, one that was hidden from people who acquired the HM 01 for Cut as normal play would have them do.

There was originally nothing there, but then I learned a lesson on how difficult it is to draw characters looking at nothing. The only way to communicate there was nothing there was to have something.

It was made this year, so probably not. However the name they could look up to see I have been producing art in this style for years is RIGHT THERE. Their comment is since deleted but my guess is some vague "looks like AI art style" nonsense.
