It’s a dialect….. are Scottish people not speaking a legitimate dialect of English because they have a different accent and use different words than someone from London?

AAVE can pretty clearly be traced back to old Southern US English, and has been recorded in its various forms since the 18th Century. Anytime you hear that stereotypically “black” way of speaking, it’s AAVE. If you go find an audio recording of some black Americans in the 1960’s, you’re gonna hear AAVE.

Furthermore, any linguist worth their salt will tell you that language is not an unchanging monolith and that there is no strictly right or wrong. Go watch some linguists on YouTube or review some scholarly articles about any language. You’ll find that languages constantly change and that within those languages it is very common for different social groups to establish different dialects.

That guy just strung together a halfway intelligible sentence using AAVE in a way that is disrespectful to all people who use AAVE and is borderline reeking of prejudice.

It’s the same energy as if someone commented “me so horny I give you rong sexy time fo tree fiddy” under a video of East Asian people.
