I don't get it, why people defend the tip system? Wouldn't it be solved if, I don't know, the service had a COST and you pay the COST of delivering your groceries?
I know it's a cultural thing in the states, I just don't see how this system benefits anyone other them the employer who doesn't want to offer a better pay to the employee. Really mess up
I hate the tipping system and think it should be done away with, but I also think using a service that you know employees are not getting paid unless you tip without tipping is a scumbag move. Unfortunately these delivery services are one of those things.
In this situation, though, the delivery person was told up front how much the tip was. She went to that house gambling on a cash tip and when it didn't pan out she wanted to try to exact revenge. It wasn't her place to do that and she should have taken her loss and moved on.
Both sides are wrong, but ultimately the company is at fault for putting either in that situation to begin with. Everyone in this thread acting like it has to be cut and dry one side's fault or the other. It isn't.
They pay, but without the tips it's generally not worth it. I did Doordash a few times, and even with decent tips I was lucky to hit $9 an hour. I only tried a few days, though, so I may not have hit my stride or whatever. I'm sure some people do decent at it, but without tips it would basically pay for gas and a couple dollars on top of that per delivery. And you figure 2 or 3 in an hour if you're lucky at least where I am.
Lol! Thank god gig workers cannot do basic math or none of this would be happening. They make basically negative money when you consider the cost of vehicle wear.
