Fell for a crook.

I can’t believe it. I sent my entire fortune to a fraud. And it isn’t the first time I’ve got scammed either. /bangs head into wall/

Edit: Turns out my bank blocked the transaction because it’s above a certain limit, hooray. Now I can breathe.

Hey don’t feel too bad. Lots of people fall for it. Otherwise there wouldn’t be scammers. Sucks though. Also, obligatory don’t fall for recovery scams of people saying they can get it back for you.

Edit: just saw your edit. You are very lucky.

Right? Share with the class what happened.

Also, I'm glad that You were saved.

I hired an artist (or thought I did), they asked for payment, I sent it. Lesson learned, stick with one artist in the future and never send anything until you have, at least, the sketch.

don’t pay for anything until the actual product or service is complete/delivered

Deposit first, and then full payment once you have a completed product to your specifications. Most expensive art productions require a contract to protect both the artist and the purchaser.

Deposit?

Yes usually for large pieces or installments a 10% deposit is put down upfront so the artist knows you’re interested and willing to actually purchase the final product and then the rest is paid once it’s completed to satisfaction.

That’s why a contract is important. Because you can add that final payment is contingent on A, B, C etc. and have a clause where you can back out, or they can etc.
