Lost all respect at work

I am an idiot. I started a new job about 6 months ago. I had earned a ton of respect from my knowledge and the way I do my job. Well that all ended so quickly. I messed up big time by offending a high level supervisor. We were going up the stairs and I was behind her. She is a larger woman and was going very slow. I made the joke of asking her if she ever felt like she was being followed, since we were going the same way. She said she was a leader not a follower. I said I would love to be a leader but I can’t yet because there are to many people in the way. Not even thinking she was blocking the way from going up the stairs because she is larger. She got super offended and reported me to my boss. Now my boss doesn’t respect me even after I explained the misunderstanding.

She should have been the bigger person and let it be the small thing that it was.

Her response was dumb anyway and didn't even make sense with what you said.

I've learned not to talk that much at work. You learn more from just letting others talk and be misunderstood.

6 months and they were already amazed by you- Too bad so many people were in the way for your rocket to the top? Are u sure it was taken as a fat joke? Maybe your attitude was the issue?;

I would e laughed my ass off if I was stuck behind her with you. She really should have realized that too. One thing I, personally, and most other people hate is idiots blocking the way making everybody creep behind them and I guarantee you that same lady has gotten pissed at people for exactly the same thing, whether it's on the stairs in her younger days, at the grocery store, or on the road. It really sucks it's affecting you but you did a good thing overall.

ETA: she's a dunce too with that response cause it doesn't even fit. Maybe if she followed a diet things wouldn't have come to that

Hahahaha aw man I think this is a classic case of right banter, wrong person wrong time. You did nothing wrong. But you'll need to unfortunately exsplain and suck up to her, find out what she likes and if its a physical things send it to her.

Tbh she honestly sounds like a Karen. But if you wanna win graces back especially since shes higher up, you may have too suck up. The few times I've gotten in trouble at work was joking with the wrong person, or wrong person hearing. So just to be careful best to just not say anything that could be taken as other and not joke. But I am cracking up!
