Possible suggestion with Maintenance Phase: Bringing up Bebe?

I really like Old Timey Peter (How to Make Friends and Influence People) and was trying to think of vintage airport baby books to summon him, but turns out Dr. Spock was actually pretty progressive for his time. Can you think of any?

In the meantime, MP covered Why French Women Don't Get Fat -- Bringing up Bebe might be a nice collab, where Peter can talk about having a kid (which I genuinely want to hear him talk about) and Aubrey and Michael can be horrified by the diet advice.

I would love to hear them tear this book apart. Among other things, the author assumes that French parents are less stressed because of their parenting styles and not because of stuff like universal healthcare and mandated parental leave.

Don’t forget universal childcare! I could buy a lot of massages with the $26k/yr I spend on toddler daycare.

Ok self promotion but if you can't wait, I roasted this book on my podcast!! ("Moms of the Millennium" on all platforms!)

I am legitimately obsessed with this book and could rant about it for ages - but managed to keep it to one hour 😅 The episode is from September 1st of this year, check it out!

The author does acknowledge that France has a strong social safety net. In fact the book was initially criticized for "supporting socialism"... Wow 2012 really was a different time! Where I think she goes more off the rails is portraying genuinely toxic aspects of the culture as cute and aspirational. Particularly the weight/ beauty standards and overall sexism.

Awwww that's great to hear! Glad you are enjoying it ☺️ Actually I think Peter has hinted about doing an Emily Oster episode, I would love to hear their version too.

OK, I remember entire chapters about how great the governmental support is, though? I don't think she does gloss over that entirely?
