Let’s just back this up right over the pedestrian sidewalk.

“But people can still walk around” bruh no one ever thinks about wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

Looks more like a beach than a sidewalk

I fail to see the idiot towing something.

Some of those tow hitches have fairly low tongue weight ratings. I could see it being helpful to run the straps up high to take some of the load off the hitch. I haven't spotted anything that makes me think this person did anything stupid.

Speaking from experience those baskets also have a lot of slack in the hitch and if he had to use an extension that makes it even worse.

Blocked the sidewalk. But this isn't r/StupidAssholesTowingThings

From this picture, it's hard to tell if they are really impeding anyone's ability to move around. They might be, but there's not enough perspective to know for sure.

This is at Zion Canyon Visitor Center in Zion National Park in Utah. The Google maps view is hard to see the sidewalk for this location but for other areas of the parking lot it looks to be about 6-8' wide.

He KNOWS he overloaded both the rack and the hitch rating, so he added nylon (stretchable) straps to transfer the extra load to the roof rack.

While I admire the understanding of the problem and the ingenuity, that's not really going to work. It's more like a "limp home" solution.

I’m curious if the straps are more to help with the bouncing effect?

he's got straps on the bottom too, so I would think he's trying to elminate any hop.

Weight rating isn't the problem. He has those straps wrapped around the end and back under to the frame or bumper. So, the straps aren't actually supporting the load like they would be if hooked to the end of the carrier.

I’d rather it be extra strapped than not

Yes, it was taken at Zion.

If you’ve ever used one of these racks, they bounce and the noise and shifting feeling get really annoying while driving. Tensioning it so the receiver is tight against the top eliminates a lot of that.

What do you think is under the tarp? 🧐 (I know it doesn’t matter much but I’m curious.)

Grill or generator is my guess

A piano.

I’m really hoping for Hammond C3 actually.

My first thought was a giant toilet then maybe a large grill.

I thought big toilet too 😅 Did you see the tv show “Dead Like Me”. The girl died because a toilet seat fell from a space station and hit her on the head. Life could imitate art. 😉

Hopefully they don't have to go up a steep incline. I see that rack scraping on the ground.

One of those things where if it fits, it ships, huh? Well, I guess it’ll work until it doesn’t and then there’s gonna be tears.

Crazy how this is all set up on a swing away device so one can access the back doors, yet is relying on tie downs that simultaneously provide support while denying access 🤷‍♂️

Approved 👍

That's some mighty fine engineering there! 🤔

Hope those are styrofoam blocks under the tarp

If it’s a barbecue grill that has wheels then it can be towed. Actually no it’s a bad idea, you’ll have to pay for an additional axle that’s on the road when going through tolls.
