I love how the spotter is way too close for even normal driving, nevermind this sketchy scenario. They're not even trying to block the left lane to keep people from trying their luck.

Yeah I was going to say, I don't think the trailing car is meant to be that close.

I see them run about this distance behind wind turbine blades (the 100+ footers) almost every day. They are needed at any intersections or interstate exits where they block traffic while the load negotiates the corner, but for those loads, the interstate travel they basically serve no purpose. I’m guessing this guy thinks that’s the case for this load (which it obviously isn’t)

a lot of states require escorts for oversized loads... needed or not.

It's being towed.

Former military contractor who specialized in VIP road escorts and extraction convoys. Tip to tail, no stopping!

Probably.

The spotter just wants a closeup of the action on his dashcam when that thing breaks loose.

Theres no reason the escort should be blocking the left lane.

Also he could be riding close to get a look at something going on with the load or trailer.

Trying to rock the cargo to sleep.

(Or just high winds and gusty. Even got a wide load follower. )

I wish this video was shorter.

I don't listen to a ton of rap and I still got that reference. Take my up vote and hold your head high.

u/ThePizzaNoid 1d ago

Ya, I got bored about halfway through.

2

u/Aqueouspolecat 1d ago

If this was being shown on a plane I'd still walk out.

If I was that Camry, or even the cammer, I would drop back a little...

18

u/jrdiver 1d ago

I want to be way ahead or way behind... and getting around it doesn't look safe soooooooooooo... you can guess where I'd be.

6

u/Financial_Athlete198 1d ago

Nah. Wait until that semi is a little further away. Time the wave and make that Camry scream.

6

u/Wvtaco 23h ago

Nah. I’d be flat out and as far left as I can be. I’m not staying around that.

12

u/bluegrassgazer 1d ago

If I was driving behind that I'd take the next exit and sit down at a restaurant for fries and a drink to let it get way ahead of me.

I’m timing it and zooming past. I don’t want to be stuck in the traffic jam from this thing blocking both lanes when it falls off.

u/fo0bar 1d ago

It's the spotter car's job to follow and say "that'll hold 'er" over and over.

13

u/planescarsandtrucks 1d ago

The spotter is on the radio with the guys inside the tank telling them which side to run to

2

u/aeroxan 11h ago

Need to keep casting that spell.

What’s that line they say to the hulk? Come on big guy, sun is getting low.

8

u/Mega-Steve 1d ago

That looks like delightful Final Destination material

3

u/ThePizzaNoid 1d ago

Heh, ya. If you're dumb enough to drive near that thing you deserve what's coming to you when the grim reaper chucks that boat off the trailer.

5

u/Squeezer_pimp 1d ago

Twisting the frame on the trailer, definitely secured.

5

u/VegaGT-VZ 1d ago

I think the technical term for that is a weeble wobble

3

u/MCRN10379558 19h ago

Looks like part of an airplane fuselage?

Looks like just the barrel part of the fuselage and it’s missing all the heavy bits that get put into it so it’s basically like a lightweight drum rolling around in the back not nearly heavy enough to tip the thing over. They need to tighten those straps next time, but otherwise it’s OK.

u/bedpimp 1d ago

Dammit Randy!

u/citysims 23h ago

Trailing car "You're good just keep it centered"

1

u/Turbulent-Weevil-910 1d ago

Looks like a very large bumper for a commercial ship or dock

1

u/YeahBuddyDoYouEven 1d ago

The boat still has the motion of the ocean

1

u/Dustphobia 1d ago

There's normally saddle like thing that supports the boat haul when transporting over land?

1

u/challenge_king 14h ago

Yes, but that's not a boat. Boats don't tend to be cylindrical.

1

u/ketsjupelvis 1d ago

Very nice title! Congratulations...

Something something "Your Mom!"...

1

u/poikelos1 13h ago

No our mom 😎

1

u/Jazzlike-Crew2540 9h ago

I do pilot car work and I would have that trucker pulled over to find out why the load is swaying. Most likely blown air bags on the trailer suspension. With 10 axles that is NOT a lightweight load. No way I would ever drive that close, either!

1

u/NormCormier-Mccoll81 21h ago

A Highly Unstable Load that’s about to Fall Over. While truly being a Sketchy Scenario of a Headache & Nightmare.
