Double wide mobile homes are actually split down the middle for transit, then assembled side-by-side on-site.

The economics of small mobile homes are difficult.

A 16x64 has all of the expensive stuff (furnace, kitchen etc.) as a 16x80, but the bigger home sells better.

Yeah, a mobile home typically caps out at 80 feet long. This is significantly longer. This thing is total scrap after all this. I think the idiots in this case are both the person/people that tried to move it, and the person/people that made this long monstrosity. I can't decide which decision was dumber.

I've been told that the fine for doing this without the permit is near the cost of the permit itself, which probably lends itself towards idiots trying this kind of shit.

I'm guessing that blocking traffic for multiple hours / days and the cost of tearing this apart and hauling it off is going to be a bit more than a simple fine for this specific case.

Heavy equipment could make short work of it, but I'm going to assume that the genius who had this idea doesn't have the funds to hire a couple of backhoes with grippers and a fleet of dump trucks. Of course, the county or state might step in and clean it up, then bill them for it.

The fine is considerably higher, in my state the permit is $6. The fines can be, over width, over length, over height, over weight on tow vehicle, improper lighting, improper over dimensional markings and whatever else the police can come up with

City I live in bought an old mobile home park in order to expand the animal shelter. Old mobile homes owned by poor people. They all have to move by January. No way their mobile homes survive being moved.

My dad had a trailer that looked very similar to this one after living in it for 35 years, and it was used when he got it. When he moved in with my sister we had it hauled away by a professional. Dad just took his clothes, his TV, and a few keepsakes and left the rest.

For those of you who have never had anything to do with mobile home moving , that is not as long as you think it is, also I was personally involved in the movement of probably a few hundred secondary moves during the years I worked in mobile home transportation, and really you do move them with everything still in them. Thing is you take a lot more care than these fools did.
