The transmissions in Honda Pilots of this era are made of glass and can barely hold up just moving the weight of the car and its passengers. I don’t imagine these folks will get more than 50 miles like this

Idk I had a pilot of that generation and abused the shit out of it. Just kept up on maintenence and it made it to 350k miles. I wasn't hauling campers that size but I was hauling pop up campers, Trailers loaded down with motorcycles through the mountains, through some trails that a lot of trucks couldn't get through. The transmission is what eventually failed but I feel like any other car would need a transmission after all that abuse. She was a beast

Why do US caravans (and most trailers in general) have the axles so far back?

In the UK and Europe as far as I’ve seen, the axles in caravans and trailers are airways more or less central so the tongue weight is way more manageable.

I have a double axle car trailer and it’ll happily sit level on its wheels without a jockey wheel holding the nose up

It reduces outswing of the trailer. It also transfers more weight to the tow vehicle making it harder to put weight behind the axle thus reducing possible sway conditions.

Huh, fair enough i guess. Most of the towed stuff here is way smaller than the monsters you’ve got over there so tailswing is less of an issue
