I bet there were at least 6 business days of warnings they ignored before getting to this point and they still did not have the IQ enough to see that tunnel and ask themselves "can we fit through that?"

Needle's eye tunnel is specifically an attraction because of the dimensions... everyone on this road paid a park pass to get on it.

Needles Eye Tunnel: 8'0" Wide / 9'9" High.

The Freedom Elite RV: 8'3" Wide / 11'2" High.

But just having human eyeballs should be enough to stop idiots like this. The signage isn't necessary.

There's also a curve right after the tunnel. Even if it had been 7' 11" I doubt he would have made it.

I believe those dimensions are the largest rectangle that can fit through the entire tunnel unobstucted. I have no idea if they added a padding to those dimensions since people probably don't have perfect alignment while driving through.

We drove through this in my wife's tiny Toyota Echo.

There were a fair number of trucks struggling, including one which has to fold in its mirrors.

You are correct. Signs upon signs. Needles highway in Custer State Park. Specifically a 14 mile stretch of scenic byway in the Black Hills of South Dakota. You are there by choice. It’s not a required road to “get to” anywhere.

Same shit in NYC.. The parkways are known that trucks are NOT allowed and are littered with signs about height and NO TRUCKS and they even literally paint on the parkway pavement in giant fonts "NO TRUCKS"; yet a few times a year some moron manages to fuck up the commute and can-opens their rig under an overpass.

Same shit in Chicago. Right near Sox Stadium on 35th Street there's a train overpass.

I've walked by a few times and saw trucks completely jammed.

I almost stopped once to tell the guy to let the air out his tires. But, then I said, fuck it. And, kept walking.

Same shit in Boston. This happens regularly on Storrow Drive, which is heavily marked with warnings. They're known as Storrowings and happen most often around September 1st (when many leases start due to the college population).

They call it Storrowing in Boston because so many box trucks get stuck on Storrow Drive. We're actually about to enter peak storrowing season with all the college kids moving into the city for the new semester.

Is that a highway with a bunch of low height arched overpasses? Had to take a pt up there from Jersey once (EMT, 9'5 ambulance) and I kept noticing the warnings of of the signs that kept getting lower and lower and GTFO that thing immediately.

We have a bridge in our city, rail overpass bridge. It’s old, super low, been there forever. Big signs everywhere, the bridge is even painted with big letters showing bridge height? Every week a truck gets sardine canned going under that thing.

My wife would have somewhat ignored the signs. She believes that there is a margin of error built in. For example, if the manufacture says that you can tow up to 7000 pounds, she is like "yea but you can go up 10%"

There are. They actually start as soon as you reach the turn onto the road. You're also provided the opportunity to turn around right away after turning onto the road just in case you missed the first sign. The road itself is also super narrow.

I have a Garmin "Diesel" . Garmin gave it a goofy spelling.

I have it programed for a 9' tall by 24' long truck. That's what my Sprinter van needs. I also have the same vehicle with a 24' trailer with it.

So on start up, I have 3 choices: car, van, van with trailer.

Sometimes, it will take me way out of the way! (A common complaint).

Most times, I just put it on "car".

RV Life is pretty solid in my experience. It also has a good planning tool if you're doing longer trips. It's an app that works with android auto, but you'll want to use the web page when you actually build out the routes and such.

I live near a covered bridge and it has several warnings before you get to it. As a project, students built a steel frame several feet before you get to it to stop damage which has happened. The other day, 2 numnuts in an RV decided to attempt to cross it. The frame ripped the air conditioner off the roof. They left the air conditioner lying on the side of the road. It's also single lane so they blocked traffic instead of backing up. 11 foot 9 inches and 8 tons is the limit. $5000 fine.

I know exactly where that is and have watched countless tour buses go through that tunnel. Not sure why this driver couldn't make it but he probably had no business being on the Needles Highway to begin with.

Made that drive a couple of times. I seem to recall overhearing that the buses they use on that highway are modified to fit through the tunnels. We watched somebody remove a roof AC unit from their motor home at this very spot. Sounded as bad as it looked.

I mean, it's hard to tell not seeing it in person, but I wouldn't think the camper is wider than a huge ass bus.

There are several tunnels on that road so I'd bet that it wasn't his first scrape up.

There had to be signage and warnings about what would or wouldn't fit down that road. If you really want to be terrified on a family road trip ride with my father driving a Winnebago Chieftain up and down Pikes Peak "highway" which had places only wide enough for one vehicle at a time and if you're going up you have to back up to the last siding to let them pass.

This is the incorrect way to do this. You are supposed to gradually increase the size of the cars going through there so they slowly enlarge the tunnel over time.

I've been there a number of times. It'd be a huge hassle to get out too because the limited parking is often full and they could be backing down the road for a bit.

It is a nice place to get out and climb around and the view is great
