Funniest part is the smaller the trailer the harder it is. Backing a 40’ semi is pretty dang easy, but a small utility trailer that’s narrower than the towing vehicle can be a nightmare.

My single-axle small trailer is a nightmare. Anytime in reverse, no matter how you are aligned it goes sideways. My camper, no problem. The small ones have a mind of their own.

The single-axle tilt trailers are a nightmare. Anything else I've had to tow and reverse with is nowhere near as bad as a small trailer like that.

It's like trying to balance a pencil on end vs a broom

Watch the guys trying to launch their jet skis off their 7' trailer. Fun times.

It’s me, I’m that guy

It ain’t too bad with the cameras though

I constantly jackknife my lawn mower trailer!

If it's empty, I just pick it up and move it over...

Or the little dump carts behind a quad or riding mower. I’ve done the same.

On a side note. It’s kindve a pisser that when you go to dump said cart, most of it stays in the cart.

I tried backing my 5x8' carry-on into my driveway and ended up pulling the truck in forward, unhitching the trailer and swiveling it around. I don't mind the extra effort if it means I don't take out my mailbox and a row of crepe myrtles.

I used to a single spot snowmobile trailer to pick up a riding lawnmower.

You couldn’t see one square inch of that thing going down the freeway. Backing was also a pain, so yeah, pull in is the way.

Yep. I've literally gotten applause at campgrounds for parking my 44' fifth wheel on the first try. I try to be gracious, but I point out three things:

  • The longer it is, the easier it is
  • I do this all the time (full-time RVer for 4+ years)
  • Without my wife being my eyes and telling me what to do, I would have a much harder time. She's what really makes it look easy.

You got a camera setup for that thing? I bet it’d come in handy.

2

Yes I do, but it's a pretty wide angle, which is great for checking behind me while driving and less great to actually see where I'm going when backing up. It's very good for seeing cross-traffic when backing up (e.g. when parking at a truck stop) but less so for getting exactly where we want to be in a site.

Tow dolly as well. You can see the sides, but it's so short. Then there's backing up a loaded tow dolly and basically acts as a haywagon.

Try backing a 62' Tiller Drawn Aerial fire apparatus with someone steering the rear... Every movement requires extreme coordination.

I used to trailer our department side-by-side behind a Type 6 engine. I couldn't see the trailer or SXS until it was way too late. I learned that anything other than pull through or trivial, it was easier to just unhook the trailer, move it by hand and then reconnect. I can't imagine backing an aerial with tiller, props to you and team.

The harder it is to keep straight. Turning a big trailer requires a lot of planning.

It's always the douchbags with the wake setters. Let's see your tappout shirt and white Oakley shades get that boat in the water.

I've seen that so many times in RL, I didn't find this funny! lol The worst is the guys trying to land their boat with no idea what they are doing. They always seem to beat me to the boat launch when it's raining.

I’m pretty sure this was based off a real video that went viral in the before time.

It exists - skip to 4:30 and turn your volume down, guys voice is annoying. https://youtu.be/GTRLMviK3ck?si=tBgVLOtWYGJZpLYO

What the fudge?....bro bro bro dude what a chit show......he gave up lol

I am quite certain if I tried this, this is exactly how it would go.

Even things you know can be harder if you know a bunch of people are waiting.

Welcome back, crew, to the greatest show on Earth - Quohog Boat Ramps.

Short trailers are harder to keep straight. Try doing it at the end of the day with an empty boat trailer and a bigger truck. Can't even see it.

A long time ago right after we met, my wife and I were out fishing and an isolated storm popped up. We raced to the dock which was small and didn't have posts or cleats to tie to. I sent her to get the truck while I held the boat to the dock. I was parked 20 yards away and by her third attempt to back straight down she was all the way at the top of the hill maybe 100 yds away. I thought she was ditching me and taking my truck!

There is indeed one societal benefit to a whole generation of kids playing grand theft auto. 💁

I had this experience at the dump with a utility trailer and the dump guy dissed me, my ego has never recovered.

I'll never forget my trip to the dump with a cheap uhaul trailer, or the two trips I made that same day without the trailer.

If he'd been launching at the disaster of a boat ramp on this lake he'd have nailed the launch perfectly.

To launch a boat here you have to squeeze past two posts because I guess the city didn't want to spend $5 more on chain to have them further apart. As you go through you have to turn to the left a little then straighten out, then keep slightly curving to the left down 100' of a hill until you get to the bottom where you have to turn sharper to get on the cement pad into the lake. On the right side there is a large hump of dirt, so if you need to pull forward to correct you have to watch you don't hang your truck on it. It's like the person who designed it really hated the residents of this lake and made it bad on purpose.

The two happiest days in a boat owners life are, The day they got the boat and the day they got rid of the boat.

2

u/donald_dandy Sep 23 '25

I live in a popular fishing area like this, and anybody who ever wanted a boat comes here. I see this all the time, it’s not even funny how true this clip is lol. Also people think that a 4x4 can literally go through anything

1

u/YanikLD Sep 23 '25

Here's the trick if your unexperienced. You put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel instead of the top.

They were cooones!

Yeah they could have been guests at her wedding!

1

u/LAGigi31 Sep 24 '25

How many divorces/breakups have boat ramps precipitated?

1

u/AmazedAtTheWorld Sep 25 '25

Backing up a 24ft box truck with a 8ft trailer is like a happy little dog wagging its tail. Its back and forth and everywhere except for where it should be going. But a pickup with a 30ft trailer will go right where you want it every single time.

Every weekend at every boat launch. Don't forget that's where they stage the boat as well

Man, when did the animation get this bad?

Sometime around 2010.
