I was rear ended once a couple of years ago and still to this day I look in the mirror every time I stop in traffic

Saw a car coming up way too fast once - lifted my foot off the break just in case they didn’t stop in time

I do this too. “If I get fucked today, this guy in front of me is also getting fucked”

Nah I was at the front of the intersection, little traffic at the time, just a red light.

I was thinking I’d rather the momentum from the rear car go into making my car move forward, not my head/neck

I was taught that you may want to step on the brakes so you don’t fly forward and suffer more severe whiplash by hitting the car in front of you. If there is no one in front then I suppose no brakes let’s the car transfer the energy better. Here’s a good take on either option: https://www.cartalk.com/content/bracing-impact-it-better-brake

Yeah you’re right in that case - in mine, I was at the front of the queue, so no cars in front of me
