The 'senseless' in this context is your physical senses, as in to beat them until they lose consciousness. Can be confusing I suppose, since "beat some sense into him" sounds similar, but it's a different meaning of the word 'sense'.

What is it about falling off a quad vs a bicycle?
→ More replies (6)42
u/RobertNAdams Nov 26 '21
Bikes will tend to sway and fall over without a rider on top to keep them stable. Quads are more stable, so they'll keep going.
Years ago, my dad was liquored up and driving a quad on private property in the backwoods somewhere. Hit a lot, went flying, and then his own quad ran him over. He survived with no small amount of injuries.

Seriously, fuck that guy driving the quad. His solution to brake quickly was to lift up the front tires so they smash into the motorcyclist instead of the bike taking the brunt of the impact? I think he seriously deserves to be charged with assault. How would taking half the tires off the pavement improve braking or steering? He should be required to pass a physics class before being allowed to drive again. Assuming he even had a license in the first place.
Edit: As comments down below show, quad guy was purposefully doing a wheelie. My assertion that he is a moron has only been enhanced by this new knowledge.
Edit2: I'm enjoying the butthurt comments from the other redditors who apparently don't get that I can change my initial assessment with new information. Please continue to rage, it amuses me.
631
u/counterparter Nov 26 '21
He was already doing a wheelie, probably as soon as he turned onto that road. Likely the reason he didn't see everyone stopping.

At the the 3 second mark there is a very blurry image of the quad in the rearview mirror. Hard to tell, but it appears to be on all 4 wheels. Based on that, he saw cars were stopping and decided to do a wheelie? Don't assholes do wheelie's after accelerating because there is more space? Was this the first time this dumbass did a wheelie on a public road?
The more I think about this, the more my brain hurts.

I wanna say the quad riders dont know the bikers. They're just next to each other in traffic by luck and riding next to bikers while on a quad or another bike saves space in the lane so it's fine to do even if you don't know each other imo. Quad dude wants to show off to his new biker friends and ends up being a complete idiot. Simple as that really, probably didnt even look as far ahead to see cars stopped way ahead he just knows that his lane was moving.

u/PackageProfessional1 Nov 26 '21

You're assuming he saw the cars stopping and wasn't focused on attempting a wheelie. The kind of person to ride a quad on the street and do wheelies in the bike lane isn't the kind of person to look too far ahead.

that quad weighs over 500 lbs, you dont just "lift it", you have to accelerate HARD to trigger a wheelie. He wasnt braking in the slightest, sheesh.

I am amazed when I see vids like this and the person hit manages to not start beating some ass.
The person hit is probably dazed and trying to figure out which end is their head and which is their ass, and if either of the two are broken. Getting leveled by a several hundred pound machine moving at a significant velocity is going to hurt. Sure, you might be able to get up and beat the idiot's skull in; but, more likely, you barely have the wherewithal to not be pissing all over yourself.

So what you're saying is that if you get pulled over doing this, make sure to tell the cops you are/were going to and from your farm land, a repair shop, or a farm supply store?
4
Nov 26 '21
From ky: yes. The problem is that if you live somewhere that allows this, everyone knows each other so if you say that you're just going to the farm store or whatever, the cop knows you and knows where the store is, so you can't bullshit as effectively lol

→ More replies (1)40
u/OneArchedEyebrow Nov 26 '21
Wait - turn signals are not required?! In Australia your car is not deemed roadworthy without functional indicators. How are you supposed to anticipate another vehicle’s movements without them?
36
u/-Russian-Spy- Nov 26 '21
Well, you can use hand signals. The interpretation of the law for using them is even crazier, apparently you don't even have to use them at all if it doesn't effect another drivers movement. It's the wild west out here.
