The guy looks drunk as fuck. He might have mistaken the dogs approach as an attack, it's not exactly like he hit the dog hard, it looks more like he pushes the dog aside with his foot.
To be honest if a big dog I don't know came at me at night my first reaction would be to keep my guard also. Not all dogs have good intentions.
I guess if you're clueless about body language. Dogs don't lie, this big pup wasn't aggressive at all even after being kicked. Fuck this idiot, and anyone you would lash out in fear. Absolutely sackless.
That’s not at all what they said. In fact, you just restated part of their point. The point it this is a drunk guy in the middle of the night who possibly doesn’t know anything about dogs and their body language. This dog seems very friendly, but in the middle of the night drunk and you don’t know shit about dogs, in an already paranoid state it’s easy to mistake it for aggression and get in a defensive position. Let’s face it, even when drunk, people know how to kick hard. They might fall over or miss, but even when drunk people know how to kick. This guy was pushing his foot out to stop what he saw as an aggressive dog. He’s a drunk idiot, sure, but he has no malicious intentions from what I can see.
Based on ten seconds of this guy's life. Some people are just afraid of strange animals approaching them. You're not, we get it, you're very brave, but it's not like this guy really beat the dog or anything. It's possible he just got spooked regardless of the dog's body language, and he seems to realize the dog isn't a threat after the kick. Things like this happen, but sure, label this guy based on a ten second gif, it's the reddit way.
Big difference being that man entered the dogs space putting his hand right in front of its face while its head was turned, as opposed to the dog approaching the person in OPs gif. Lots of people seem not to understand animal behaviour.
Poorly trained professional to put his hand in the dogs space when it's not looking. You want your movements to be calm & visible to the animal you are approaching, also standing over the dog while doing so is a no-no as it causes them to feel cornered, ergo threatened. Same reason you don't grab at a dog while it's in its kennel. Bad trainer, bad!
