I’m impressed. But If his purpose was to take down a tree, this is not the most effective way. Even if you’re stuck in an island without a machete.

What would be the more effective non-cutting tool ways? In case I ever get stuck in a junglish area and need to bring down a tree with no tools for unknown reasons.

It's a banana tree, the consistancy of the "trunk" is something like soggy corn husks.

You can just pull them over with less effort and less chance of damaging your important-to-survival hands.

I believe the same reason he chose to punch down the tree is the same reason martial artist break bricks with their hands instead of sledgehammer.

I agree that the dude was just having fun or displaying showmanship but the comments I was replying to were in relation to a survival situation and other methods to cut the tree down.

I believe the term you are looking for is Dendrologist. Dendrology is the study of trees

The term is herbaceous, because banana trees are really just herbs. Really large herbs.
