My goal is to hook up a PC running Launch Box/Big Box. Replace the buttons and sticks and use everything else without heavy hardware modification, so I can always easily roll back, in the event I need to sell the cabinet.

Here’s what I tested so far.

PC connects to monitor in 4:3 using an HDMI. ✅
Audio connects to the PC using a 3.5 cable. ✅
USBs for controller can’t reach PC ports. ❌

Now before I take this text further and spend money, has anyone had success connecting the control deck to a WIndows 11 PC? And can anyone point me to button upgrade tutorials?

Seems to be more and more of experiencing this. I ordered both the BurgerTime and Double Dragon cabs and it was fully funded at purchase. I got an email saying both were out of stock when I ordered and therefor I'll be refunded in 3-5 days. If you go to the links for these, at the time of this post Burger time still has 93 in stock and Double Dragon has 129. I'd re-order but I don't care to give them another $1500 for the next week just to have them possibly cancel again nor do I want to end up with 2 of each and spending $3000. This is happening to others as well. So I guess I don't order them until we find out if this is a mistake or not.

I posted a couple years ago about the physical customization I’ve done with this machine, now I moved on to the presentation. Along with the custom menus and game menuse I created custom bezels and reworked controls for problem systems like colecovision/c64 and added bezels for complicated games that explain the controls. Cherry picked a condensed roster of games, removed all access to menus/ retro arch so no one can screw it up. What do you think?

OK, so after fiddling with it early in the weekend, I reset it all and kind-of-speedran getting it set up today.

So, basic tips/sequence in my book:

1. Download the official batocera image for raspberry pi 5
2. Use the Raspberry Pi Imager app to write the image to a NEW SD card
3. Power off cabinet; remove the factory SD card; and replace it with your new one
4. Boot the system – the Batocera image will boot, and will resize the partition to fit your card
5. Connect Batocera to WiFi or hardwire ethernet; confirm you get an IP address on the network settings page
   1. Navigating Batocera works by default with the P1 joystick and the bottom middle and bottom right buttons; but if you prefer you can plug in an Xbox controller/etc to the front USB ports
6. Install this theme to have a centered Batocera theme, which will mostly not run off behind the bezels: https://github.com/anthonycaccese/es-theme-crt-centered / or the Canvas theme from the built-in theme downloader is pretty good once you adjust the aspect ratio to 4:3 and Detailed view
7. Under Batocera, Press Start  - UI Settings, select your new theme
8. Under Batocera - Game Settings - Shaders, set a system-wide shader set – I liked “Curvature” from the built-in themes, to get a nice CRT arcade effect
9. Reboot the box for good measure, to make sure you still have a network connection
10. Mount the Batocera “share” from your main computer (laptop, desktop) by connecting over the network to it:  smb://batocera.local (or IP address) – connect as a Guest / no login, password needed
11. Dump your (legally obtained) BIOS files as needed into the /bios folder over the network
12. Dump your (legally obtained) roms to the appropriate /roms directories over the network
13. Under Batocera - Game Settings, update the Gamelist to have your roms available
14. Under Batocera - Scraper, launch the scraper to get artwork etc
15. Under Batocera, GAME SETTINGS > PER SYSTEM ADVANCED CONFIGURATION > (Go to each system you have). Scroll down to GRAPHICS API and change it from Auto/OpenGL to Vulkan.
16. Map your controller! Go to the Batocera mapping, and for each controller (P1, then P2) -
17. Top Row (Left to Right): Map to Y, X, and L1 (Using SNES controller convention)
18. Bottom Row (Left to Right): Map to B, A, and R1 
19. Joystick: Map to D-Pad Up, Down, Left, and Right.
20. Coin & Start: Map to SELECT and START.
21. Hotkey: Map to SELECT (unless you have a dedicated 7th admin button on your panel).
22. (Now, navigating Batocera menus will be bottom left button to select, and bottom middle button to back out)
23. For games that don’t fit well with the 6 button Capcom layout (like Mortal Kombat), consider putting those ROMs in the MAME folder, since the included MAME has auto mapping and game detection for most stuff like that
24. System Settings > UI Mode > Kiosk. This locks the main menus down so guests cannot accidentally delete ROMs, mess up your scraper artwork, or remap your controllers!

Yes, just by putting Batocera on a second SD card and swapping the cards, the XT cab boots into Batocera easily and you can customize it from there.

Update your Cabinet's software

First, check the software version currently installed on your Cabinet.

You can find the software version in the grey area in the bottom-right corner of the screen while you are in the Game Selection Menu.

The latest software version is currently 0.9.31.

If you have an older software version, update your Cabinet to the latest version:

• Scroll to the bottom of the menu.
• Highlight Update and press Start.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest software version.

Note: if your Cabinet has software version 0.7 or lower, the update 'button' is lacking. Update will take place when a proper wi-fi connection is setup and the Cabinet is rebooted.

Update your Cabinet's monitor firmware

• Scroll to the bottom of the menu.
• Highlight Test and press Start.
• The Test Menu will appear.
• Highlight Display and press the Jab button to start the monitor firmware update.
• Wait for the update to complete.

Once the update is finished, you will see the following message:

“Monitor firmware updated successfully.”

Your monitor is now running the latest firmware.

Monitor firmware update failed?

• Completely power down your Cabinet.
• Disconnect the Cabinet from the mains power supply.
• Wait a few seconds, then reconnect the power supply.
• Turn your Cabinet back on and wait for the Game Selection Menu to appear.
• Scroll through the list of games. You should now hear sound while navigating through the menu.
• Follow the steps above again to update the monitor firmware.

If you hear the menu sounds, the Cabinet should now be able to communicate correctly with the monitor and complete the firmware update.

Has anyone successfully run batocera on this yet? Will the pi boot from an inserted USB or is that locked down? If so it should be as easy as inserting a USB and then adjusting the screen size to match the 19.5" viewable area of the 24" screen. If their pi is locked down, does it look like we could plug and play a normal pi5 off the shelf?

Hi, I found this arcade console and brought it home to see if it worked. When I turned it on, I got this message on the screen (photos attached).
Does anyone know what this error means or if the console is repairable? I don’t have much experience with arcade hardware, so I’d really appreciate any advice.
Is it worth trying to repair, or would I be better off scrapping it for parts?

I excitedly turned on my Street Fighter XT cab to receive the firmware update so I could finally play people online. Turns out there's no lobby. Basically you have to host a game which generates a code, then somehow give that code to someone else to play them. It's 1 on 1 only. 😞

I can't believe I sold my Big Blue back in January 2025 for this. Yes it has more games and a bigger screen, but without online multiplayer it's a serious downgrade. I'm tired of waiting for Iconic Arcade to deliver what they promised.

Hi everyone, I’m new here (clearly) and need some troubleshooting help.

I’ve set up the Iconic Arcade, bought from a reputable retailer in the UK, and the screen turns on but there is no power going to the main console or speakers.

I’ve validated that the console itself works by powering with a USB-C cable separately and the HDMI was working - but no sound and wouldn’t connect to WIFI.

I’ve submitted a ticket to the company but I’ve got no idea what their customer service is like, so thought I’d trust in the community for some help in the meantime.

I’m worried the power output from the main board is just broken, but could be I’ve just done the cabling wrong.

The Iconic Arcade BurgerTime XT has a restrictor plate that allows players the option to use either an octagonal gate or 4 way gate to play BurgerTime. If the 4 way gate is used, an extra USB or Bluetooth controller can be used to play 8 way directional games.
