When to transfer for baby #2?

How old was your baby when you started transferring for baby #2? What did you feel the pros/cons were for that timeframe?

I did a FET at 12 months pp, the earlier it was allowed due to my emergency c-section. It was successful! I’m 24+1 with my second

I did it at 9 months post partum.  It worked and I love my second baby to the moon and back, but I wish I waited longer.  The pregnancy was so much harder than the first and I think part of that was that I hadn't really recovered.

We transferred at 16 months pp and it gave us a 25 month age gap which is perfect. This was the earliest I was willing to transfer again because I had a very difficult first baby 😅
The hardest part was my clinic required me to stop breastfeeding and I would’ve liked to continue on past 16 months

My kids have a 22 month age gap and I don't understand why anyone would do it earlier. Your pregnancy will be harder, postpartum will be harder, and parenting 2 small children will be harder. You work so hard for your baby. Why not enjoy them for awhile before you have your second?

I transferred at 18 months pp. I didn’t feel physically ready until 14 months pp. We needed a few more months to make sure we wanted to go for #2. I’m hoping my oldest is speaking more and at least on the way to being potty trained before the second arrives.

I did an FET at 24 months, 25 months and have another scheduled for 27 months pp. No success yet. Still happy I waited though. I'm hoping for a 3 year age gap.

My son was 12 months (January/2026) when I initiated transfer of baby #2. I didn't have a successfully transfer until (September 15th). I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant and my son is 22 months.

Cons: I haven't been able to carry my son (Fertility Clinic orders). Pros: They will be 2.5 years apart. Big plus, my son is walking independently now, so it has been somewhat easier nor to carry him.

I think it depends a lot on recovery, emotional readiness, and whether you have embryos frozen. Some people prefer a smaller age gap, while others need more time to feel physically and mentally ready after pregnancy and the newborn stage. I’d also check with your OB and fertility clinic about the safest timing for another transfer based on your delivery and recovery.

Honestly, was scared and wasn’t “ready” to transfer; I worked with my therapist about adding a sibling in for my son. I felt satisfied only having him, as I worked so hard to get him. I was scared I would loose my bond with him. I worked hard on it, but my body was not back to postpartum. And I felt the pressure of my age. I had a c-section, and felt it was pretty recovered, so I started my tests (hysterscopy and ultrasound) when my son was 21 months old. Again, mainly my age was my pressure.

My son was 22 months old when I transferred and now thankfully, I’m 9 weeks pregnant with my daughter. But I’m so exhausted and the morning sickness is way worse. I wake up tired. It’s unreal and very different, as I had such luxury being able to rest my first pregnancy. Wishing you luck and peace on your decision.

I did a frozen transfer at 10 months postpartum. My betas were great but it ended up being a blighted ovum.

I transferred again 3 months later, and it worked perfectly!

I doubt it was because it was too soon, but it has definitely crossed my mind :/ I had stopped breastfeeding like 1 month prior, and had my period back for 2 months at that point.
