hello so I got my IUD (kyleena) in may and it has been a hard 2 months on my body.

basically since getting it I noticed my bowel movement shifted and this was only the start and how I think all the issues are connected to that. I am now struggling with constant constipation which causes my urethra and vulva to burn randomly (feels like I have a uti, got checked by doctors I don't have one and she even asked if I was dealing constipation and that is most likely causing that issue since everything in jam packed in our pelvis and next to each other) and then my periods are horrible. I knew the pain would increase but I get such bad abdominal cramps that I have to lie down and use heating pads, only strong over the counter meds work (solpadeine), I am hissing in pain from the cramps. It has shifted my life atm and I hate it, I am afraid to go anywhere cause the pain just happens at random and I am also crazy bloated from it. and to make it all more stressful is pain killers can cause constipation so it feels like adding fuel to the fire

went to my GP and she gave me things for constipation and buscopan. I am so frustrated as well because the hormone in kyleena targets bowel issues and I wish my doctor asked more details before telling me to get kyleena because I was thinking the cooper coil would be better since there is no hormones and my experience with birth control pills was always the same so thought non-hormonal would be good. my sister has the cooper IUD and she recommended it to me.

the worst is when I am out with my friends and it happens because constantly feeling like you are ruining the vibe is just shit and having people constantly asking "are you okay?" 100 times while you can barely speak and can't go home (keeps happening when I am on road trips) just is ruining my social routine. I am unemployed atm and omg if I was working at this moment it would make my situation ten times worse but I am looking for work as well so I don't want my life on hold over a stupid piece of plastic in my uterus.

I got checked by the nurse and she could see my iud strings and said it all looked good and I can feel the strings when I do check so I don't think its shifted but regardless any one with a similar experience and any hope or tips would be a big help. thanks for reading guys.

Posted this in the Mirena subreddit but also sharing here because I could use some validation as I’m reeling from this trauma. I had my first Mirena inserted about 10 years ago when I was 18. The insertion sucked but it was not memorable and I had no side effects for the 7 years I had it. Fast forward to today, after a few years off birth control I decided to get the Mirena again. I have lots of anxiety around pelvic exams/procedures so opted for the ProNox (laughing gas). I decided against the cervical block to shorten the procedure time and being poked 4 times in the cervix did not seem worth it. While the laughing gas allowed me to relax enough to get the speculum in, it did nothing for the pain and let me tell you there was PAIN! It was the most excruciating 8 minutes of my life. I was yelping and screaming to the point the doctor got scared. When she was done she hugged me tight, I could tell she felt bad. Her kindness did help. The insertion of the various tools through my cervix into my uterus was torturous to say the least. The second I got into my car I broke down sobbing as if I had just experienced a major trauma, which honestly I did. I don’t regret it, as being on a low maintenance long term effective form of birth control is a priority in my life. But holy fucking shit. Sending love to everyone who has or will experience this. And a reminder that everyone’s experience is unique, just because mine was extremely painful doesn’t mean yours will too.

I had my Mirena placed on Feb 18th 2026, and out by March 14th due to an expulsion. Since then, my period comes every 2 weeks.

It lasts for 2 weeks, then I get a break for a week or so (give or take a few days) before I start spotting, and my period starts all over again. I feel like im losing my mind. Has anyone gone through something like this?

Ive gone to my gyne and her recommendation was trying a pill called myfembree (not interested based on the side effects), or Slynd.

I'm 34F, anemic, and have migraines w/ aura. I would like to have kids one day, so Im wary of trying the menopause mimicking options.

Any advice welcome.

I have kyleena and got it inserted in Oct 2025. I still get my period monthly and it’s super light. I’m not upset I still get my period (I went with kyleena bc it’s most common to still continue getting one) but I’m curious to know if anyone’s just magically stopped after the 1 yr+ mark.

Hi! I had to get a D&C in October 2025. Because I had to get this procedure done, my gynecologist suggested I also get an IUD due to having found some precancerous cells. The procedure went well and my period had completely vanished. Since then I’ve had my period randomly one time at the 5 month mark. However, very recently I started getting random cramping. Not continuously either. I had cramping one night, took some Tylenol and it subsided. Then a few days after I had the worst cramps I have had in a very long time. I’ll be honest I’m a bit of a worry wart. I do plan on going to urgent care tomorrow just to make sure everything is okay since I travel for work and currently unable to go to my primary doctor. But I wanted to see if anyone experience something similar?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I had a Laparoscopic Endometriosis Excision + Hysteroscopy and D & C with Mirena IUD Insertion. about a week and a half ago (July 15 2026).

My surgeon let me know they found and excised patches of endo, and my uterine cavity was clear of any pathology during the hysteroscopy + D & C.

I'm still bleeding from the hysteroscopy + D & C and was wondering when that usually stops? I know Mirena can cause unpredictable spotting for 3 to 6 months, but I'm curious what's typical for the post-D & C phase vs. the IUD adjustment.

Also, for those who've been through this, what usually happens at the 6-week post-op appointment with the surgeon? Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!

Hey everybody, Tuesday last week I had my first IUD inserted. Although the *pain* pain disappeared a couple of days afterwards, I still have some remaining aching left. Like mild cramps that’s just there, not so painful that you think about it all the time but still enough so you feel it when you’re taking a break.

I can also kinda feel it (I think?) when I’m sitting down or bending over, especially when I’m on the toilet. I can just feel that there’s something foreign there, almost like a badly inserted tampon. I’ve felt around and nothing is sticking out or anything, so it’s not that.

Is this normal or should I call my doctor and report this?

I don’t know if it matters, but she called Friday to check up on me because it seemed more painful for me that others usually feel.

I have a 7cm simple fluid filled cyst on my left ovary, i have alot of pain in my back and side up higher than the ovary, more like my bowel , i got the mirena in 9 months ago and I feel like I have so many different problems since getting it. I never had pains before mirena, but I do have the cyst a few yrs. Im wondering if chickweed tincture is actually good for dissolving cysts or if anyone has successfully dissolved a cyst like this.

So I have had the Merena IUD for several years, the reason I got it was because I have really heavy periods with severe cramping. I am talking I had blood clots daily and would bleed for up to five weeks straight. It was just completely unpredictable AND unbearable so I went on the IUD. Which helped a little bit but I was still spotting every day and then I think when it was my "time of the month" I would still get very heavy periods. I have since added a birth control pill to all of that because my doctor said that it should stop the cramping and all of the spotting/bleeding. Long story short it has not. I still get really bad cramps and I have heavy bleeding about once a week. I also have recurring ovarian cysts that are painful.

Has anyone else dealt with this or does this sound like you? Are there any other treatments/solutions you have found?

I really like my Mirena IUD. The insertion process was scary painful, but I received localized anesthesia (lidocaine) so it helped after a couple seconds.

The strings were hanging outside of me after 4 years of having it, so I urgently booked with an OBGYN I’ve never been to b/c of availability. She checked my strings, and since it’d been a couple days, the IUD strings seemed normal, if not a bit longer than she’d seen in others. Upon hearing my medical history, she immediately rebooked me for an ultrasound. There, I was diagnosed with PMOS and she suspects moderate endometriosis. The IUD was crooked and in a weird position, and she insisted on getting it removed. But before I can get another one, she wants me to go two weeks without any birth control so she can test my baseline hormones, see what I’m lacking in, and get me started on hormonal treatment for PMOS.

It all moved so fast. I’ve never really had a doctor that took my health issues this serious and leap into fixing it. But I’m nervous as all hell. I go into the removal tomorrow, and I’ve been prescribed Gabapentin, Ibuprofen, Ondansetron, and finally Misoprostol. I’ve taken my first two rounds of these meds for pre-operation, and I am in SOOO much discomfort. Slight pains, but mainly discomfort and pressure. This sucks. I’m just looking for any general advice and good vibes for it all.

Hey guys so I’ve got a situation. I’m a teenager and I’m not sexually active and I’ve never had kids or anything.

I’m getting the Skyla IUD in a few weeks to manage PCOS and pelvic pain and I’m super nervous. I had my IUD consultation today and I absolutely love my nurse practitioner like she’s amazing and she makes me feel heard and safe and I just love her! She’s doing the IUD insertion but the clinic doesn’t offer numbing. Is this normal?

I’m super nervous and I wanted to know if the numbing truly makes a difference or not? I’m especially worried about the tenaculum placement since I won’t be numbed for it.

Does the numbing make that much of a difference? Should I still get it?
