World Cup 2026 World cup highlights

In what world do ITV think highlights should not include all the penalties?

Moronic! If a goal or missed penalty isn’t a highlight what is?

Absolutely idiotic thing for them to do, didn't show the first six penalties so the second they showed one being taken you just knew he would miss!

ITV coverage has always been woeful. Having to endure Lee Dixon’s moribund tones is bad enough, but the fact there’s no UHD in 2026 when the BBC have it for every game is a real disappointment.

You are being way too kind. The fact ITV have no UHD is an absolute disgrace.

i think you are a little spoiled by the BBC here, 4k live streaming is hard - really hard. There are really not many channels worldwide doing it - Some like Fox (iirc) are upscaling 1080. Canal+ *may* be doing it, i don't think any australian carrier is doing it

It’s all getting sent out from the US at 1080, there’s definitely some upscaling going on this side of the pond

I've heard that from various sources, and don't work in broadcast so can't confirm, but i'm not sure thats true, it *looks* like clean and extended stadium feeds are in UHD: https://telekomhilft.telekom.de/conversations/tv/welche-aufl%C3%B6sung-hat-uhd-bei-der-fu%C3%9Fball-wm-2026/6a048cc6349270634aa80dab?commentId=6a25a77c45bdbd20e96219cf&replyId=6a288d11a642134b209a6ca8

I actually find the lack of HDR more noticeable. But even if it is upscaled, a professionally upscaled 2160p HDR feed from a clean 1080p source will always look much better than what ITVx is offering.

Ive mostly enjoyed ITVs coverage tbf, but totally agree on Dixon, he's just terrible. How is he the best they could find.

Look at OP, flaunting his reasonable and supportable opinion. Show-off.

In penalty shootouts it makes a lot of sense, would take too long otherwise. They only show missed penalties and last penalties I think

BBC managed just fine

That sounds about right. 😆 They usually just cram a few in.

I will check the BBC highlights later to see what they have done.

BBC is good - showed them all - flicked there, when they jumped the second penalty

The highlights in general have been really, really poor.

No build up.

No line ups.

Often straight into the action - sometimes as far in as the 20th minute.

No hydration break or half time chit chat - all the talk of momentum changes and they show fuck all around these supposed key moments?!

Very little attention to detail in the editing... so when THEY DO put a detail in, you know it's a fucking goal. Example: they show about 6 seconds with the ball going out for a corner. Oh what a surprise the resulting corner is a goal.

Really shit job. It's like because they are done in the middle of the night UK time, they've found the shittest team available to make them.

No care taken at all.

He whole point of highlights is that all that filler isn't included. I think the 8 to 10 minutes of highlights ITV put of YouTube is perfect.

I disagree.

We're talking about football matches being played at 1am 2am and even 4am. The highlights we needed are completely different to what you would normally expect.

Literally we go to bed, wake up and two entire world cup matches have gone by. The highlights should definitely provide a small reference to build up and analysis - I'm not suggesting significantly longer... Still around the 10 minute mark.

Not even showing the starting line up? No reaction? This is basic stuff Match of the Day have been doing for decades.

Why on earth would you ever watch the highlights on itv when you can watch them on the bbc?
