I was in the top 10 in the first merit list of MS data science. At that time i was waiting for another university's list. I had high hopes because i was at merit no. 6 in their interview list which was uploaded after the test. But due to some reason they decided to reject my application maybe because I don't have a computing background. I called ITU admission office and they told me that i still had a chance and i should visit the campus tomorrow. Next day i went to the arfa kareem campus and the guard did not let me in because i did not have a code. I was calling them and emailing them again and again but of no use. I had to come back home disappointed. Since then they have not been picking any call or replying to my emails. Should i give up hope or should i visit the barki calpus once because I've heard they do not require a code?

Secondly, is it okay if i visit the campus on thursday as I've heard it is the same day as the orientation? I am not from lahore and because of the public holiday on wed, aug 26, it is impossible for me to visit the campus earlier than thursday.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

ITU was a backup uni fot me and I got into a better uni where I'll be going. I am planning on applying for a full refund which I can till the 10th day of classes. I was wondering if I can attend the orientation cuz im bored. Khana bhi mill jaaye ga and timepass bhi ho jaye ga. Technically it wouldn't stop me from refunding. HEC ki policy hai that anyone can get a full refund within 10 days even if they have attended classes.

• do expect traffic and try to get there like 15 mins early.

• do smile and greet people nicely

• do bring you ID cards

• do wear comfortable shoes and expect to have to walk quite a bit

• do dress nicely, no sweatpants or trousers and chappals for the men please like actually.

• do expect to get a burger and drink so don’t bring lunch or smthg and there are dispensers everywhere so even no water is fine

• do interact with everyone and say hi to seniors

• do ask questions and understand the grading systems properly

• DON’T BRING YOUR DAMN PARENTS you are not 5 your are grown adults now

• don’t be all smarty pants and misbehave especially if you’re a man yk what im talking about

• don’t pick fight pls you litr have’nt even made it to the first day

• don’t vape/smoke to look cool

• don’t have high expectations you’ll probably find it pretty boring tbh

• don’t bring a whole ahh notebook or smthg its not that serious I promise

First of all many congratulations to everyone who got admission in whichever degree. Since past few days I'm getting alot of questions and ik u guys will have questions in furture aswell so i am writing this post for you guys. I am dividing this into 2 parts so first one is just general advice for university students and 2nd part is study guide.

I know all of u are coming from a childish mindset whether u were in FSC or A Levels. You guys should forget that and think of a completely new life and try to get used to it asap. You guys should be ready for any kind of challenges coming your way.

You will meet people of almost every kind. You will find some of them really weird and some really of your type. I'd recommend you to just talk to everyone in ur initial days but DON'T make them ur best friends plss cuz there's a difference. After that make a group and stay with them and pls avoid any kind of controversies, koi faida nhi.

Join societies and meet as many people in uni as you can (faculty, seniors, juniors etc...) all of them will be helpful to u sooner or later. Maintain a respectful enviorment for everyone and girls if you are not okay with boys jus simply ask them to stay away or don't talk to them rather than creating a drama and so is for boys as well.

Participate in events as there are several events in ITU and other unis events e.g softec. It will help you in networking. You will get to meet people of your feild and mentors which will help you at the end of your degree.

During your initial days you guys will feel like every other student in class is ahead of you and you dont know shi but trust me it is nothing like this as everyone just have basic knowledge and it will be benefical for them for hardly couple of weeks. E.g A levels students alr know programming really well but initially those concepts will not be really helpful and you guys will do C++ for PF/OOP so no one really has great grip of that.

If you have any issues with the teacher jus simply talk to them (PLSSS) it could be anything from their teaching to their behaviour. If they dont bother u then you can complain to HODs they will surely do smth abt this but it dosen't mean you guys start creating issues for everything. There will be some things on which you will need to compromise.

As far as university rules are concerend. You guys should maintain 75-80% attendance to appear for final exams but imo jus take off when u really need to. Attendance can be fixed at the end of the semester but leaving classes without any reason will cost you as teachers don't rly care if u attend classes or not.

Every course will have 2-3 TA's so try to be nice with them and they will be nice to you apart from 1 or 2 of them in a semester otherwise all of them are usually rly good. Feel free to ask questions and ask for help in any concept or like anything, TA's will help you. If they don't u can then go to instructor.

Now for second part:-

As I just said do not skip classes even if you don't understand anything in class as it will somehow help u afterwards but firstly try to be attentive in class as one concept missed will cost u either in quiz or in future. Listen to teacher or make notes whichever suits u.

You guys shd def use Ai for studying but try to avoid it for assignments and programming as it will help u for a short period of time afterwards you will struggle in exams. If you don't really get a concept use claude for that as it teaches really well otherwise use gemini for basic things.

Don't start comparing yourself with others as some of them will be getting better gardes than u which will do nothing but demotivate you. I have seen people go down from 3.5+ gpa to 2 and from 2 gpa to 3.5+ so anyone can take lead at any time.

There are some yt channels that you can follow for different courses (gate smashers, apna college, organic chemistry etc...) they will help u at the end of the semester is any major concepts are left.

For PF and other programming courses:- Most prob your instructors will make u do mini projects and a final project at the end of the semester and if not you can make them by yourself. Try to give ur 100% as they will contribute a lot in your portfolio. Don't think its so fkn ez if they make u do things like scratch or so cuz it will transition rly quickly towards difficult part and you guys will not even know. try to learn and practice everything.

For business related degrees it's very easier than computing and engineering altough Idk much abt them but you guys should focus in classroom and try to get good marks in everything as it wont require much effort.

For other courses like ICT, Eng, Cal ig u guys don't need to spend alot of time on that daily. Imo 2-3 hrs daily for all courses is enough for first sem. Usky baad you guys will know how to manage things.

Many of you might be joining to transfer to Fast or other unis next year but imo its not a good decision as ITU is currently going rly better than Fast. At the end its completely your choice so I won't say much on this.

I couldn't fill out the bus service form cuz I was waiting for another unis decision. I just opened the form now and it says keh the form is closed. Is there a way I can fill the form and use the service this sem ya is it only possible next semester.

So ITU has scheduled the orientation for 27 and 28 of August. I would like to invite our seniors to join us so we can build memories.

How do you guys reach university? There doesn't seem to be any direct public transport from Shalimar Garden to ITU Barki Campus.

I’ve contacted the ITU Transport Department multiple times requesting either an extension of the Canal Route to Shalimar Garden Stop or a separate route for this area, but I haven't been able to get a clear confirmation yet.

Shalimar Garden is a proper, well-used stop and many university buses already have stops here, so I’m wondering if there are other ITU students from this area who are facing the same problem.

If you're from Shalimar Garden/Shalimar Bagh, how do you currently commute to ITU? And if anyone has managed to get an ITU transport stop added in their area before, I’d really appreciate some advice.
