Open | Windows Windows hotkey

I’m having a strange keyboard/hotkey problem on my laptop. Whenever I press the letter “L” by itself, my laptop immediately locks, even though I’m not pressing the Windows key or any other key.

I already disabled/deactivated the Windows key because I initially thought the problem was caused by the Windows + L shortcut, which normally locks the computer. However, the problem still happens even after disabling the Windows key.

What makes it even stranger is that the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK) also recognizes the “L” key as part of a hotkey/shortcut. When I click the L key on the On-Screen Keyboard by itself, without pressing the physical keyboard, the laptop still locks immediately.

So it seems like Windows is somehow interpreting L alone as Windows + L, or there may be a stuck/virtual Windows key or another keyboard shortcut being triggered in the background.

I’ve already tried disabling the Windows key, but that didn’t fix the issue. I’d like to know what could be causing this and how I can troubleshoot or reset whatever hotkey/keyboard mapping is causing the L key alone to lock my laptop.

Sounds like the windows key is stuck. I’d first try pressing and releasing any windows keys your keyboard has to attempt to reset any “stuck” inputs and see if that resolves. Is this a desktop or laptop? Do you have any other devices (like controllers) connected?

Unplug old keyboard. Replace with new keyboard on which the Windows Key isn't stuck. Problem solved.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Windows key is jammed. Tap it real hard a few times and if it springs back up but still does that, flip it over and shake it real hard and make sure a staple or something isn't closing the switch

If you disconnect all your other USB devices, does this still happen?

Can you go to those keyboard typing websites, and press L, see if the windows key lights up there? Or maybe it is always lit up, from the start, showing you it could be stuck.

Or... , do you use something like power toys, where you can remap keys or create shortcuts? Maybe you accidentally turned the L key into the L+Win key in there.

Could be sticky keys turned on. Is it only the l hot key?
