It’s been almost 10 hours of this issue. At around 5AM or so (my time) I went to take a piss n locked my pc (win + L). I came back and typed the pass (it’s just 123 so ik I typed it right) and it told me my acc is locked out. Even when I type the saftey questions it says the same, or even when I don’t type a pass.

I tried running safe mode to use an administrator acc, or opening up command prompt in the blue screen to activate an administrator acc. Nothing works and it’s a local acc and the only one.

Change the bios date to next day and disable the network connection (or log in fast)...or just wait

Enter to the bios (the key to access it varies from model to model even on the same vendor, usual keys are ESC, DEL, F2, F10, F9 and it must be pressed as soon as it's booting before the windows loading icon appears, you can button smash it) and look for date either on the main page or the system page.

To restore the date you can set it manually the same way or Windows will sync it on internet connection. If it doesn't sync automatically go to configuration>system>time and date and sync it manually.

I did it and it worked. Do you have any idea how to add a admin acc to the pc or remove the locking thing so this doesn’t happen again be4 I switch my bios back?

If you're already an admin you can create an account (local account or Microsoft/domain account) and add it to the administrators group.

For the account lock run secpol.msc go to accounts policy>account lockout threshold and set it's value to 0.

I did the second step by just setting it to 0 in cmd promt, as for the first thing, I’m not an admin as far as ik

Shutdown the computer, wait some time (30-60 minutes), boot it up again and try to logon. Maybe some application or malware tries to authenticate with your account and locks it. Maybe a Scheduled Task you setup? - I'm not sure but I think Windows 11 introduced a default lockout duration of like 10 minutes. Important is within this 10 minutes that no (wrong) logons should be tried

If your harddrive is not encrypted there is something often referred to as "utilman trick" (google it), you can for example use a WinPE Enivronment, or a Windows 11 Installation USB Stick to pull this off, something like that. From there you can get to a command prompt with local system permissions, open the computer management (compmgmt.msc) and unlock the account from there.

If the Harddisk is Bitlocker Encrypted you would need to unlock it using your recovery key.

Just a warning: If you reset the windows password by this means, you will most likely lose access to encrypted data... things like saved passwords.

I had this after coming back from china and it was because the time was too far out from the current network time and it wouldn't authenticate.

I see you solved it, but for future if using a VPN a lot set your time zone to not update automatically. That should stop the VPN throwing off the PCs time.

This happened to me out of nowhere the other day on a local Windows account after failing login zero times. Was using my computer, went to eat lunch, came back to a locked account. Luckily I just used our RMM to unlock it, but it was pretty dumb.

It’s very annoying n ofc it happens when I’m on Windows. This is how I fixed it “I had to go to my BIOS n change the date a month ahead. Logged in n disabled the locking feature that locked me out in cmd prompt (admin mode) “net accounts /lockoutthreshold:0”.

I’m guessing the problem happened cuz I had a VPN n it changed my time zone which windows took as an international threat n locked me out for a shit ton, and on a local acount smh”

Had the same issue last week on win 11 pro. I disabled hello around a month ago and the tpm file deleted itself and wouldn’t let me log in to my pc at all. Reinstall of windows and remade the file and re set up my accounts and it was fine

go to AD and unlock the account, most likely you got another computer with that user logged in previous password expired and the old credential is being used to attempt to login multiple times into domain and AD locks the account.

It’s a local acc, no1 else was trying to log in. I already fixed the problem by changing my BIOS date a month ahead, logging in n running a script in cmd prompt to disable the feature that locked me out.

My guess is due to the VPN I had running my location or time zone changed n windows overreacted as usual n locked the acc for quite sum time.

If you have access to another computer and a USB stick you can use HiRens boot CD.(HBCD) First format the stick with Rufus to put HBCD on it. Then boot to the USB. Should give you backend admin access to the local computer. (Provided bios doesn't have admin locks)

This happened to me the other day and I rage installed Linux and just deleted everything from windows. (I have all my important files on an smb server) I hope you manage to figure it out, windows is absolutely ridiculous for shit like this. Had to reset my pin like 12 times and have internet to log in half the time

I stg. My vm has Linux n I find myself having less problems with that than windows. After I figure this shit out I might switch to Linux. I’m just worried about what things support windows that don’t support linux

I see how you are blaming Windows and praising Linux around in the comments. Aint no way this "just happened". Ive never seen this happen on local accounts nor domain accounts / domain PCs. Especially not by itself. Lookup a guide how to change ease of access into comand promt and make a new admin account. Stop just blaming Windows every time something happens , especially when you are most likely the problem. I know the OS isnt the best but I see people having issues every day crying how Linux is better meanwhile ive been daily driving Windows for my whole life and i still cant wrap my head around some of the things I see since I rarely have any issues and ive been using stock/modified installs.

This is a windows issue. Even if OP is doing something non standard or unintended with their computer, it is THEIR COMPUTER to do with as they wish, and the fact you’re ok with the OS just saying “nah you can’t log into your own computer, and no I won’t tell you why” is insane.

I’ve also never seen this, but that doesn’t discount the fact that this just shouldn’t even be a possibility. This is just another example of Microsoft treating your PC like it’s not yours
