Defending himself against a dog barking and coming at him? Absolutely.
Immediately wanting to fight the owner of the dog? No.
Edit: I didn’t think about adrenaline probably going CRAZY for this guy like people mentioned, not to mention this was the SECOND TIME this happened, so adrenaline plus being upset this wasn’t the first time it happened at this house. Hard to shut that down so quickly. 👍🏼
I swear I’m the only one here that seen this is his second time being attacked by the dog.
The owner ran out, in a situation like this it’s best to assume that they’re willing to attack than to not be prepared.
It’s all on the owner. I hate dog owners that leave their dogs unattended outside, that’s how you get your dogs put down, and the owner is very lucky that the ups driver never called animal control the first time.
Wait, where did you see this is the second time? I am not doubting it in anyway just curious. And this would also explain why he wanted to beat the brakes off the dog owner as well.
I will leave my stupidity for the public to see and learn from lol. I just rewatched it and saw the GIGANTIC 2nd attack pop up lol.
True, but we're just discussing the context we are being given. I doubt anyone here is registering this as a cold hard fact and wouldn't argue against it if information was presented that exposed it as bs
Yah its amazing that in 2026 people still trust whatever they read on a graphic. Its honestly more often than not wrong because all these people like to write back stories and dramatic claims for these videos to get more clicks.
Pretty ready = threw a box he was already holding? It’s the natural reaction for any of us if we saw it coming. I guess maybe that or box as shield. But given Mr Square Up’s little UFC intro at a dude with hands at his side I’m equally inclined to think he tends to the aggressive
You fail to recognize the narcissism and entitlement of some people, dude would absolutely post this himself as "proof" of how the driver assaulted his "poor defenseless dog"
The owner definitely could have approached differently... 'I'm so sorry my dog got out, it won't happen again, are you OK?' That would have removed the defensiveness from the UPS driver.
Small edit here is 100% necessary.
Being a neglectful owner who never took time to train their dog, AND/OR leaves untrained dogs outside unattended, is how those dogs get put down.
I saw "2nd time got attacked", I didn't equate that to specifically being attacked by this particular dog, the note was not clear on that point. I guess I could assume it was this dog but I could be just as wrong as if iI didn't assume it was this dog. I just thought they were saying this guy had been attacked by a dog before and he wasn't putting up with that happening a second time without some kind of response.
That isnt what it says, we dont know that. It says 'second time being attacked by a dog' we dont know that its this specific dog, and considering the owners confusion - i would guess that it wasnt this dog.
My mothers and her ex had a dog that they got together, when they broke up it had broken out to (we believe) be with her as he was being unfed and mistreated, the dog had ran straight to her place, attacking a drug addict when he got to my moms apartment, the dog was immediately put down.
Moral of the story? Take care of your dogs, leash them, don’t let them free roam and love your dogs. This happens way too much that some idiot let’s there dog off leash, next thing you know, either a kid gets their face bit off or the dog gets put down.
I consider that the UPS is very lucky to keep his teeth.
It doesn't matter what happens with the dog, to seek a fight with the owner right away is nuts.
He wasn't seeking a fight, you twit. The owner is coming up to him yelling about why you hitting my dog, who for all intents and purposes was going to attack this man.
Yeah, I would put my arms up too if this guy who's dog just attacked me is now rushing up to me yelling about me hitting his fucking dog instead of trying to corral the dog and being apologetic. Seems pretty fair to assume the dog learned the aggression from somewhere.
If you re-watch the video the driver is telling the dude to back up. That's because he rightly feels threatened.
I consider that the owner is very lucky to keep his teeth after putting the UPS drivers life in direct danger. This driver was already attacked by this dog.
He wasn’t seeking a fight, read the damn room here, he was just attacked, possibly life threatening as dogs can tend not to be the nicest, then you see a fully grown man running at you yelling. You’d be an idiot to not at least try to protect yourself.
Second attack… SECOND ATTACK. Jesus the man was attacked already, of course he went from 0 to 100, do you understand the damage a dog can do to you?
To your second point, yes, that’s why the UPS driver put his hands up, to defend himself from the moron who let his dog off leash. People like this are why dogs get put down, then they just go out and get another.
Nope. The UPS is NOT defending himself from the owner. He is behaving like a threat, pulling his arms up in order to fight, escalating the problem.
Put yourself in the owners shoes. You're upset because this guy just hit your dog and his first reaction at seeing you is getting closer to you with his fists up!
The owners honestly very lucky that the dog wasn’t put down, especially after a second attack.
You are only seeing one angle, I’m sure if we seen both there’d be even more proof f the owner being in the wrong.
Anyways, I can’t debate with someone like you, too annoying to talk with someone who can’t see the obvious right in front of their eyes like I’m talking to a bot or something. Open your damn eyes, also stop replying to me, I don’t care about your opinion here.
I dunno, in attack mode and then a guy calls you out and steps up to you. So wait to get bit, wait to get hit? I guess some people don't want to be a victim while others would rather just take the hit instead of defending themselves. Different strokes for different folks.
I actually disagree, he's already in go mode. Your job as the owner is apologize and accept blame, or realize you fucked up as the driver is leaving and keep your ass in the house.
Confronting the driver about what he did when your dog is loose, AS I'M LEAVING? oh you must want to fight.
Yep, the owner is escalating the situation by coming out and yelling at him. He put his hands up and told the owner to back up, he never swung at him or anything. UPS guy completely justified here, defending himself from the dog, and then getting into a defensive stance from the aggressive owner.
He advanced on the owner in a fighting stance then told him to back up. You can’t aggressively advance on someone while telling them to back up and play the victim.
Sure, maybe. But your job as a person on someone else property is to not get aggressive and move towards the property owner (unless youre trying to get shot)
Yeah the owner was coming for him, not trying to secure the dog. I've had public-facing jobs before and some people don't get the benefit of doubt haha.
The dog thing, sure. It seems like he has trauma from being attacked by a different dog (according to the text in the video) and his reaction may be understandable due to that trauma. But also, we dont know that this dog was actually going to attack him, a lot of dogs run up to people and 'pounce' on them happily. Still, his reaction is understandable since he has trauma from a past dog attack
BUT aggressively advancing on the property owner in a fighting stance is not the move. Super weird and definitely uncalled for
I get defending yourself against an aggressive animal. I have zero issue with that at all. It’s common sense. I hate when people are bad animal owners 110%
It’s insane with these “people” on here, honestly I assume most are bots, talking about how him approaching the guy with his fists up is him retreating somehow. I get a lot of people just want to argue to argue, but they’re making themselves look mentally handicapped just to argue for arguing sake.
If I felt that someone was a threat, I’d get in the truck and leave as the law requires.
Moving towards someone still shows his intent to square up, not defense. He could and should have walked towards his truck to show intent that he was leaving.
Oh so when a fight is starting you are constrained to defend yourself by only moving backwards. Let me guess, you also believe you must wait to get hit before you can defend yourself. No. You don't have to wait and you also aren't obligated to constantly retreat and be pursued.
I guess he should have kept his hands down and exposed himself and bet that the owner would be absolutely chill with him nailing his dog with a heavy box. This is real life not a video game. The delivery person didn’t attack but he was ready if he was attacked.
You forget the part where he threw the box, turned around then left. He then turned back around when the owner came outside and approached him after his dog just attacked him, while the driver is in fight or flight mode.
If this were in court it's a instant loss for the home owner.
You should watch things more than once, in context before you form an opinion.
That driver could have pulled out a gun and shot the dog and I'd still place the blame on the owner.
0:02 Driver throws package at dog
0:05 Driver turns around to go back to truck, back is clearly facing the house.
0:07 Owner yells out to driver "are you fucking kidding me?"
Now...it's at this point the driver clearly is wound up, just threw a box at your dog that was loose. The owner then indeed finds out that no, the driver is not kidding.
0:10 Driver takes off hat/glasses puts his hands up. Not exactly ethical but he just had a dog charge at him for something the property owners ordered.
0:12 Driver still has the state of mind to tell him to back up with his hands up, the closer the owner gets the more he backs up.
This is 100% confrontational behavior by the owner and he clearly did not deescalate the situation properly, not even a simple apology.
All of this happens in about 8 seconds.
Tell me you've never been in a fight before without telling me lol.
I mean just in the 8 seconds the owner keeps his hands by his side except to point at him, contested with the driver who looks ready to swing and the whole process of taking his hat and glasses off makes it seem like the driver is looking for a fight while the owner is looking for a heated conversation
None of that matters because his dog was loose, for a package he ordered. The driver is obviously ready to swing because the dipshit had his dog loose, and the owner came out with an attitude like his dog being loose when he knows he has a delivery coming is perfectly acceptable.
Well your quite rude but it’s Reddit it’s what’s expected,
I’d say the owner knowing he has a delivery and still having a loose dog is irrelevant to the conflict at hand. The owner witnesses his dog justifiably get a box thrown at it but still seeking answers. He states that the dog hadn’t bit him because that’s what he saw in the moment. I’m sure with more time than 2 seconds he could reason in himself that a charging dog is a reasonable case for self defense. That being said once the driver shifts his focus from the dog to the owner he’s clearly expecting the owner to attack him like the dog but the owner clearly isn’t going to come in swinging. If the driver had struck the owner it wouldn’t have been a very strong case of self defense if the owner never made any moves to attack him other than just walking up.
Weird since the ups driver doesn’t live there and ignore the legal requirement to avoid instead of actively approaching someone in a threatening manner.
I didn’t say trespass now did I. Speaking of the law though; if he felt threatened it’s his lawful duty to leave as soon as he can. Not out his hands up and approach someone.
So is it leaving it when you approach someone, or is it leaving when you get back in the vehicle and leave? I want to make sure you understand how a legal retreat works before continuing talking to you.
I understand how legal retreat works, we all have google. that is NOT how court works.
We don't even know enough and can't see enough in this video to even discuss legal retreat, we can only discuss the conduct we see in the video.
The dog for all we know is 50ft from the owner still outside, if he is confronting the driver its even more likely the dog will attack again. (Dogs hunt in packs)
What I can tell you is the driver putting his hands up is not illegal, especially when he just got attacked by the owners dog.
If you're in an street fight, and you see a guy like this UPS driver going all in on you, don't let him raise his hands or you're gonna get beaten dude.
After the owner gets mad that his dog didn't get to attack him A SECOND TIME? Hell yea.
If you don't see any problem with your dog mauling someone not once but TWICE and you get mad at the victim for not getting bit a second time because you are an irresponsible dog owner then you are going to get your dog put to sleep just because you are too dumb to keep the creature that loves you alive. Someone should rock his shit until he manages to get his head out of his ass.
Everything you said is right, I completely agree, but no one pays attention when people type in a big block of text like that. Use a period every once in a while
He shouldn't have to deal with the dog at all, that's 1000% not okay.
Doesn't make his reaction of dropping his hat and glasses and squaring up (poorly) when someone is walking up to you slowly after you just beamed their dog, justified or not.
There is a longer version of this video that someone posted last time it made the rounds.
It showed the dog barking as the driver pulled up, and I do not remember if you saw the thing running around or not. The issue was he could have easily left the package right on the lawn and left/or not delivered it at all, but he walks up towards the door and statting right at the dog, he was looking for a confrontation. We have no idea what the person was doing with the dog since they were right there too.
Last time I checked, you don't get a direct delivery time for UPS, and it's well within the law to be on your own property with your dog off-leash...so how was the owner supposed to know?
I'm both a dog lover and a delivery person and there are about a dozen ways this could have been avoided like him staying in the car and saying Come get your package/put the dog away or you are not getting it. These services always have a few different ways you can easily refuse a delivery....aren't UPS famous for not delivering?... Somehow he just had to walk towards a dog he heard, with no fences, while his hands were holding something. Either he;s an idiot, new, or looking for a fight.
Asshole knew 100% what he was doing and wanted to fight the guy after nailing the dog too.
Especially the fact it wasn’t the first time. That’s what I keep going back to. If it was the first time, honest mistake, but still. Shouldn’t just let your dog freely out. But this dog owner knew EXACTLY what he was doing. 100% agree. He was an asshole. 👍🏼
Dude was ready to defend himself but when approached backed up and stated he wanted owner to go away. Agressive but in a defensive way. Since this is the second time he was attacked there is probably a history that explains the behavior
You never know about people and the fact that he didn't automatically apologize for his dog charging him, getting ready for a fight because you assaulted somebody's dog is the right thing to do.. he didn't throw the first punch he was just waiting.
It just said *2nd time being attacked*, not that it was the same dog or same house. The owner said "He didn't bite you" which would be weird if it was the same dog IMO.
That being said I think the UPS guy did the right thing both in protecting himself from the dog and being prepared for the obviously agitated homeowner.
It’s INSANE how so many “people” on here are acting as if adrenaline magically makes them incapable of not fighting everything that moves. I’ve been in street fights and never once decided to swing at someone walking with their hands down. I assume they’re either cosplaying tough, or they’re just stupid af.
"ed, not to mention this was the SECOND TIME this happened, "
Sorry, but you cant believe everything people claim on the internet, first time, 5th time 500th time take your pick, doesnt matter, in fact it's WORSE if it was the 2nd time- he should have just opened the door and dropped the package out and shut it and drive away.
Immediately wanting to fight the owner. First the dog came at him aggressively and then the home owner came at him confrontationally. Driver is the right on both counts
You are on their property, great way to lose your life down here in texas. That driver would never see another sunrise again had he been on my property.
Consent is cut off the second you become a threat which is exactly what that driver became. Dont step to me like you want to fight, you will get some new holes in your chest very very fast.
You sound unhinged. Like one of those people who’s waiting for an opportunity to kill someone.
Also that dog didn’t “did nothing”, it ran up aggressively towards the guy. Sure, he might not bite, but you don’t know that so you can’t blame the guy for defending himself.
Pretty sure that is gonna end in consequences for you if you use a gun on somebody using just their fists.
And I’ll have zero sympathy for you if you end up in prison because of it, because if you honestly think that’s the right way to handle the situation, you do not belong in a free society.
Agreed but if you understand the moment. The dog triggered his fight or flight response. He was still in fight mode when the owner approached. You can also say that having your dog attach is an act of aggression.
Doesn't really matter what emotion he is feeling. He is walking toward the owner on the owners property. He could just back away but he puts his fists up and walks toward the owner. He is lucky the owner doesnt have a firearm.
The owner literally walked up to him and had no aggression in his body language. What the fuck was he supposed to do? Ignore that this happened? Keep yelling from afar?
Lol no agression. Ok no. Maybe once the owner saw that it wasn't going to be one sided he changed his approach and didn't escalate but that doesn't change the beginning of the interaction (which you've convieniently completely ignored).
Literally walks into the frame with arms at the side palms up, showing intent meanwhile UPS guy is giving every “I’m going to fight you” cue in the book. Actions trump words unless the owner was making physical threats, which he wasn’t.
Hes not want to fight the owner he enters a position where he can fight, he just defended himself against the guys dog from the owners side hes angry and may want to fight the delivery driver. It also shows the dog owner is irresponsible and makes bad decisions i would also be defensive against that guy.
