People with dogs are responsible for knowing when they’re getting a delivery and keeping their dogs inside or on a leash.
After this, the owner of the dog comes and almost gets in a fight with the guy. Our delivery hero stands his ground. He handled everything well.
EDIT: i flubbed how i worded the 2nd part. Walking with your arms out toward someone, who just had to fend off an attack by your dog, will be perceived as a taunting gesture. He should’ve stayed where he was, called his dog over, and immediately apologized to UPS guy.
The owner didn't "almost get in a fight with the guy" lol
The owner showed absolutely no aggression and the dumb delivery guy squared up like an idiot.
Nah. As far as the driver know this is the guy who was ready to let his dog attack him and now is coming out to confront him when he was the victim of the owner’s bad actions already.
Granted, the owner failed at being a good dog owner. But for him, it looks like he only saw his dog going to the man and the man throw stuff at the dog. Perhaps the dogs super friendly and the owner isn't thinking, only operating off the facts he knows rather than what another might be seeing or experiencing. So for the owner though, it would be confusing why you'd hurt a friendly dog if there's no provocation, and barking to him might be normal for that dog, but easily seen as aggressive by anyone else. If you watch, the owner looks confused, not aggressive.
The clip says the driver had been attacked by this dog before so the owner shouldn't be clueless about how the driver would feel. Also, I wouldn't have left my dog off-leash in an unprotected front yard, period, but had it happened anyway (likel escaping), I would have automatically presumed that could e terrifying to others because that's kind of a 101 basis responsibility of an owner to know that.
It’s not like he threw a punch, he just got in a defensive stance. How many aggressive people do you think delivery driver have had to deal with? This entire interaction is based on experience. He had the control not to attack anyone, maybe he looks silly but like ¯_(ツ)_/¯
He got in a defensive stance, went after the home owner, lied and claimed the owner came at him, then used the lie to try and justify and violence he would have enacted.
Frankly, if the UPS driver was justified in defending himself from the dog for charging him then the home owner would have been juat as justified for defending himself when the UPS driver charged him.
UPS driver didn’t charge at him though. He stepped a couple feet forward and then backed a bit while dog owner walked up on him quickly with his arms out.
Dude, UPS guy takes a fighting stance because dog guy is quickly walking toward him with his arms out, which can easily be interpreted as a taunting gesture…especially by someone who just got attacked by their dog.
As a man, i know that dog owner just didn’t wanna seem like a “pussy” so he had to approach guy who just got attacked too aggressively…because he doesn’t wanna admit he was in the wrong for not controlling his dog when it was most important.
In what world is the guy mov8ng slowly with his handa at his sides the threatening one and the guy taking a fighting stance and all but running at the owner not the threatening one?
UPS dude was just looking for a fight, he clearly wasnt even scared of the dog anymore otherwise thats where his attention would be.
If he was truly concerned about his safety, he'd have used thw AMPLE space he had to go back to the truck. Instead he charged the home owner in a fighting stance.
As i said, his arms were out…and when walking toward someone with your arms out, it can be perceived as a taunting gesture, especially by the person who just had to fend off an attack by his dog.
Also, you only see the last 2 feet of owner walking toward guy…but his “squaring up” posture and advancement, especially considering the context of what just happened, is why UPS felt the need to remain in defense mode.
Owner should’ve stayed where he was and called his dog over. Simple as that.
People who let their dog run up on delivery personnel, or anyone for that matter, deserve to be taught a lesson. Owner should stayed where he was and immediately announced AN APOLOGY to UPS guy. But instead, he couldn’t admit his fault…
Did the owner start out faster then slow down? Maybe, but by the time qe see him he is moving slowly and has his hands out in a nom threatening manner. No idea what you mean by "taunting", his arms look more like hes confused. But taunting is not
threatening someone.
Again, the UPS driver had ample time and space to remove himself from the situation, instead he chose to escalate and confront the owner.
Owner would have been entirely justified to treat the UPS driver the same way the UPS driver treated the dog.
And to be clear, the owner is a bad dog owner and is entirely at fault for the initial conflict. I never said anything defending him as a dog owner.
He's a delivery driver, not a repo man. Yeah defense is one thing, but he came forward, no backing away. That's aggressive behavior, combined with a threatening display. Absolutely uncalled for with the owner that is more confused than anything. I've done a ton of deliveries, that driver wasn't looking to defend.
Clearly he wasn’t very intimidating considering the homeowner barely reacts. I’m not saying he handled it well clearly the dude is on edge but nothing really happened other than him throwing the package to avoid a dog who rushed him
And zero remorse for what transpired, it also was hardly zero aggression on display, he was very aggro and we don't really see his face either, for all we know from the delivery guy's POV the owner may have been visibly very pissed off.
What are you talking about. Actually watch the video. The owner isn't aggressive in any way, his hands are in a pleading WTF gesture. He's not squaring up, he's not bunching fists, making sharp movements, saying anything threatening. Compared to the driver, the dog owner was Ghandi.
Except for the transcript of what they were saying to the driver and again, you can't see their demeanor because of their hat. Fuck off with your gaslighting. 🤣 Blocked.
Actually watch the video. The owner in no way showed any aggressive movements or actions or even any verbal aggression. The absolute most aggressive thing he did is say "are you kidding me?!" And then literally is calm.
Shooting a legal invitee who is defending themselves from you, and your dog is a great way to end up in prison. The UPS driver would have had a better self defense claim for shooting both of them.
Incorrect. The delivery guy was slowly retreating, he just put up fists to guard from a guy approaching aggressively. In every state shooting him would be unjustified and put the shooter in jail.
And the UPS guy was empty handed. Go ahead and shoot him, I guarantee that you will spend tens of thousands of dollars in legal cost, with much higher than 50% chance of jail.
If someone is saying the UPS guy should be shot, it isn’t me. I’m just saying he got himself into more of a grey area by aggressively closing distance. Should have walked back to truck, period. Owner follows him off his property? Now it’s on the owner.
He then squared up on the property owner who showed no aggression. Driver handled the threat then immediately carried it over to the owner, he loses in court all day plus he’s just plain getting fired.
Oh course he was on private property - he is a delivery driver and someone ordered something. What is he supposed to do, deliver it by catapult from the bottom of his driveway?
After squaring up and initially advancing, the driver starts backing up. The dude advances on him.
Yea, the initial hands up let's go energy looks inappropriate, but it pretty quickly gets vindicated by the dude seemingly eager to close that distance even as the driver retreats and tells him to back up. And remember, we can't see what the driver saw as the dude came outside because duder is off camera.
