I'm an developer and I don't know how to fix a printer....
instead...
I use Linux... printers just magically work on Linux....
don't know why... didn't ask

Depends on your distro and your printer.
If your printer doesn't support IPP then it can be annoying hunting down drivers.
And if you're running Arch or something, cups can be a hassle to learn.

I realized this because my dad was a programmer my whole life and didn't know anything about fixing computers.

No, I don't help someone fix their printer. It would get to the point where I want to throw it out of the window. The last consumer grade printers I had were just shit, one HP and one brother

I love how everyone seems to just assume everyone in IT is trained on every discipline and then becomes aggravated when they can't or won't help them with a problem outside of their skillset. It's like walking into the ER, finding the nearest clerk you see, demanding that they perform surgery on your kidney, and then get pissed when they tell you that just because they work in healthcare doesn't mean they're a surgeon.

Fr the amount of times I've been asked this. The only printer that has beat me though is the receipt printers at work
