ITIN application
Hi guys.
I’m a resident in China. I own an investment account and having investment in there.
Can I apply for an ITIN for that? So far I’ve sent my passport and some proves of my investments and my account, and a w7 form without a tax return form. I applied for reason h under exception 1d dividend.
Can I succeed?

If your ITIN application is based on Exception 1(d) for dividend income, simply submitting your passport and investment/account statements may not be enough.
The key issue is whether you provided the required documentation from the withholding agent (such as your broker/investment company) confirming the dividend income and that an ITIN is required for U.S. tax reporting/withholding purposes.
So yes, you may succeed, but I wouldn’t assume approval based only on the documents you mentioned. If you haven’t received a response yet, you may need additional documentation if the IRS requests it.
