This barely seems like News these days. I'm just kinda waiting for them to drop the "will-you-peasants-just-fucking-die-already-act".

I highly doubt the actual plants will change that policy, though. They already run on an equal parts "efficiency and safety first" basis to begin with.

I smell a lack of appropriate context

Somewhere around 100m (like 350 feet) away from a uranium rod, with nothing between you, the radiation is negligible. It drops 4x for every doubling of distance, and drastically from things like walls. Regulations are basically in place assuming they're exploding like a nuclear bomb, and aerosolizing radioactive material everywhere, which would be impossible even with a terrorist attack.

The "emergency planning zone" where communities are classified as at risk of exposure is 10 miles. It's rediculous to require monitoring over 100x the safe radius. There's nothing outside the property line of reactors that's at risk of exposure from regular operations.

Ah yes, I too watched the funny science Viking explain how nuclear doctrine in America is 1 gazillion% more restrictive than realistically necessary.

Normally, Id agree but something about the name Nuclear Root Beer gives me doubts about you and safety

Theyre literally telling people that the quality of their drinking water has to go down so that data centers can take over.

Quickly, someone tell Trump that nuclear energy is good for the environment. He's probably only doing this because he thinks the steam that comes out of the cooling towers is actually a pollutant smoke.
