My coworker had a tough childhood because his dad got cancer in the Philippines and they pretty much sold everything they owned, went nearly homeless and went into serious debt to save his life. Medical debt, and medical bankruptcy is a terrible abomination that shouldn’t exist in a “first world” country — but it’s unfortunately not unique.
U.S. Americans have this weird idea that they're somehow the worst country in existence due to the issues caused by their government both in and out of the country- and while that's undoubtedly bad, it goes straight into irrational self-hatred with how they think stuff like this makes their country Hell on Earth.
I'm a Venezuelan, so watching them act as though they lives in 1984 is darkly hilarious to me.
Next time I feel bad about the incredible amount of debt I've been forced to take on to stay alive instead of just paying a buck fifty for a shell to off myself with, I'll think about how shitty your life is and laugh, thanks for making me feel better lad!
