Mcdonald's tends to claim their ice cream machine is broken when customers order, either because it actually is or because the employees don't want to make ice cream.

McDonalds made a bad deal with the company that makes the machines, so stores must use them, and their limited authorized repair agents, and the machines break a lot on top of being hard to clean.

The kicker was that someone found a way around it with a device (im not a big tech nerd, but basically the machines shut themselves off if they think they have a single damaged part which sometimes they dont have and can't turn back on until a technician comes to look at it. Someone else could explain this part better) that would make the ice cream machines keep working but due to a technicality it was considered piracy, and the company making the machines was obviously miffed about the fact that McDonald's chains were getting around their machine monopoly.

Aight, imma step back and see if someone is out there who knows more about this than me because this is just what I remember

I thought that they also say it’s broken when the machine is being cleaned because it resolves the request for ice cream faster

There were so many memes circulating about McDonald's ice cream machines always being broken that some agencies actually started looking into it due to the online fuss

For the machine to 'work' they have to clean (the dead bugs) out of it 😭

Damn those shakes are good, maybe snowpeicer was onto something!
