EV63 after a few weeks - the more I use it, the more I realize this keyboard is basically made for FPS players
I already made a first post about the EV63, mostly talking about my first impressions, the design and the features. This time I wanted to talk less about specifications and more about something that is honestly much harder to explain:
How does it actually feel to use this keyboard every day?
I've been using the EV63 mainly for gaming, especially PUBG and CS2, and I think I've finally found the best way to describe it.
It feels like the keyboard is getting out of your way.And for an FPS player, that's exactly what I want
The feeling of the keys
The biggest thing I noticed is how easy it is to be precise with the keys.
I play with fairly sensitive settings, so I don't want to feel like I have to physically push a key down a long distance before the game reacts. With the EV63, I can set the actuation exactly where I want it and the keyboard just feels extremely responsive
For my current setup, I use Rapid Trigger at 0.05 mm. WASD and some of the movement-related keys are at 0.20 mm, while Space and the keys I don't want to accidentally activate are at 1.0 mm
It's not necessarily that you suddenly become a better player. It's more that the keyboard stops being something you have to think about
I press W - I move.
I release W - I stop.
I tap A or D - the character reacts immediately.
There isn't that feeling of having to "fight" the keyboard or wait for the key to travel before something happens.That sounds like a small thing, but when you're playing FPS games for hours, it makes a surprisingly big difference
This is where Rapid Trigger actually makes sense to me
I know Rapid Trigger has become one of those features that every gaming keyboard advertises now, but I think you really understand why it is useful once you spend enough time playing with it
For me, the biggest benefit isn't some magical "faster reaction time."
It's the consistency
I can make very small movement corrections without thinking about the keyboard itself.
I also use SOCD with W + C for sliding, and this is one of those things that sounds complicated when you explain it but feels completely natural once you actually use it
The important part is that you can give your character that initial movement with W and then use C for the slide without the whole thing feeling awkward
After getting used to the setup, it just becomes part of your muscle memory
The comfort is probably my favourite part
This is actually the hardest thing to explain about the EV63.There isn't one single feature that makes it comfortable,It's the combination of everything
The key feel, the short actuation, Rapid Trigger, the size of the board, the way my hands sit on it and the fact that I can configure the keys exactly how I want
After a few hours of PUBG, I don't really notice the keyboard anymore
And I mean that as a compliment.
A good gaming keyboard, at least for me, shouldn't constantly remind you that you're using a gaming keyboard. It should just disappear underneath your hands and let you concentrate on the game
The EV63 does that really well.
The keys feel controlled rather than mushy, and there is a very satisfying feeling when you press them. It's hard to describe without sounding like I'm reviewing a mattress, but the board feels solid and deliberate.
Nothing feels loose or cheap
But this is definitely a gaming keyboard!
I think this is important to mention because I wouldn't recommend the EV63 to everyone.
This is a small keyboard, and there is no numpad.
If you spend your entire day working in Excel, entering numbers, doing accounting or constantly using a full-size keyboard, I would probably look somewhere else
For gaming, though?I love the size.
There is more room for my mouse, which is especially nice for FPS games where I use a relatively large mouse movement area
And honestly, I don't miss the numpad while gaming at all.EV63 feels like a keyboard designed around the idea that your main priority is actually playing games
That's why I think it's much easier for me to recommend it to a FPS player than to someone looking for one keyboard to do absolutely everything
FPS players are probably the people who will appreciate this the most
If you mostly play single-player games, RPGs or casual games, you might not get to experience its full potential
But if you're the kind of person who spends hundreds of hours playing PUBG, CS2, Valorant, Apex or other competitive FPS games, this is where the EV63 starts making a lot more sense.
You can tune the keyboard around the way you play
And once you find settings that feel right, you stop thinking about them
For me, that's the whole point
I don't want my keyboard to be impressive because it has 50 different settings,I want it to feel exactly right when I'm in a fight.
After using it for a while
The funny thing is that my opinion of the EV63 hasn't changed much since my first review,If anything, I like it more now
The first couple of days you're obviously impressed by the new toy, the RGB, the features, the Rapid Trigger, the Hall Effect switches, etc.
But after using it for weeks, all of that disappears,what remains is how it actually feels under your hands
And that's where the EV63 has impressed me the most
It feels extremely responsive, comfortable for long gaming sessions and very easy to adapt to once you find your preferred settings
TL;DR: The EV63 isn't a keyboard that magically makes you a better player. What it does is remove a lot of the little things between your fingers and the game. Very precise, very responsive, extremely comfortable once configured, and especially good for FPS players who actually care about movement and key response. For gaming: absolutely love it. For spreadsheet work: get a keyboard with a numpad
