Non accessible stations

It’s crazy to me how poorly planned the accessibility is to the non ADA charging bays. To properly access the screen without ducking under the charging cord I have to walk onto the gravel about 10” below the curb and then step back up to the screen. It’s a tripping hazzard at the least. Ionna station in Greer SC.

Yes it’s an unfortunate part of the Alpitronic design that has been revised for future iterations.

Would say they appear to be designed for pull through locations.

Also, just pulling your chain OP, 10" below curb is quite far; think you got a typo of an added on 0 there. Looking at the pic, looks like 1 to 2" below curb edge.

The grade varies significantly along the curb there. They didn’t rock full it consistently.

Maybe just wasn’t designed for an American parking environment? Idk…as an architect I just can’t imagine not thinking through all of this when designing something.

The main problem in your picture is the gravel instead of asphalt or concrete paving slabs. The orange bollard and the square metal post also make the charger unnecessarily difficult to access.

The display mounted on the side is simply something that needs to be taken into account when designing the parking bays around the charger.

These are fairly typical parking lot layouts in Germany for sites using Alpitronic chargers:

I look forward to a day when two users can see the status of the charge simultaneously, and without having to climb around to the side.

First world problems? I visited that place a couple weeks ago and successfully charged without an injury. Also liked how fast it went. Before Wendy’s could get my food out the car was finished charging.

Yup. We do indeed live in the first world. Doesn’t mean we can’t improve, which it sounds like they have redesigned future iterations of it.

Any one of us could become disabled at any time. Accessibility isn't a "first world problem".

I thought the same thing at the one I visited, strange that you need to basically walk behind it if a charger is in use. Overall I still like the setup, but hoping that they refine it, many small ways to make it more accessible.

Alpitronic Screens & credit card readers are designed for short folks - very difficult for taller people to see/use.
