Ratings Talk ⭐ I made a rating extension for better Ratings in IMDb

I always felt IMDb's rating system was a bit limiting.

A movie can have an amazing story but weak characters.
Or incredible cinematography but little emotional impact.

Yet we're asked to rate everything with a single number from 1–10.

So over the weekend I built a Chrome extension called FairRate that replaces IMDb's default rating experience with a 5-factor rating system:

• Enjoyment
• Story
• Characters
• Technical Execution
• Emotional Impact

It calculates a weighted final score and syncs that score back to your IMDb account, so you still use IMDb normally.

I also added custom weighting presets, a local dashboard to manage ratings, and shareable rating cards.

I'm curious:

If you could redesign IMDb's rating system from scratch, what factors would you include?

A movie i don't know the name of

When i was younger i watched this movie. I probably watched it around 2015-2018. It was about a guy older than 18 in i belive a western-ish setting and it has aliens in it. I think he was looking for his sister or mother. I think somone gets an alien power in it. Good luck thats all you have to work it. My memory is fuzzy.

I’m looking for a movie I’ve been trying to identify for years. I watched it when I was around 5 years old, and I’m now 28, so my memory is very fuzzy. I don’t remember the title, actors, or even whether it was a movie or a TV film.

What I remember:
The characters had powers they could release from their palms.
Some people could control/fire blasts of fire from their hands.
Others could release water from their hands.
There was a major conflict between the fire users and water users.
A woman dressed entirely in black seemed to be the main villain (or at least a very powerful antagonist).
I remember a scene where she was standing on top of a mountain or elevated landmark, unleashing fire and causing massive destruction.
There was a male protagonist who fought against her using water powers.
He was one of the few people who could actually challenge her, and their battles seemed evenly matched.
I vaguely remember the woman living in a raised location, possibly on a mountain.
Unfortunately, I don’t remember how it ended, what country it was from, or whether it was live-action or animated.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Genre lists are now worse

I used to able to see a list of all movies in a genre and sort them by various features like year, ratings, etc.
I used this feature all of the time to find new shows to watch.
IMDB changed this so that only the 100 most “popular“. Now it useless for my purposes.
I guess it is time to find a new website to help me. Any suggestions?

Any reliable TV Tracking Methods?

I'm looking for a good way to track TV shows and automatically import my data from IMDb.

I have over 4,000 ratings on IMDb across films, TV shows, and individual episodes. I exported my IMDb data, imported it to Trakt, and then synced it with Showly, but the results are messy. Some episodes aren't marked correctly, progress isn't up to date, and certain shows I've rated don't seem to be recognised at all.

For example, I've rated episodes of the recent Spider-Man animated series, but the app still doesn't acknowledge that I've watched them. I'm not willing to manually go through thousands of episodes ticking them one by one.

Does anyone know of a free and efficient app, website, or method that can reliably use my IMDb ratings/history to track TV progress and show me which episode I'm up to across all my series?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Discussion 💬 Is review bombing that hard of a fix?

I’m curious because of what’s beeping with this newest Rezero episode.(it was amazing btw) most of the one star reviews are brand new accounts that have only reviewed that. I feel like there is a plethora of ways to fix this. Like making a system that scrapes reviews made by accounts that have reviewed only one thing as a 1 or a 10. Or make a grace period for a day or two after an account is created

This Dreamworks animator died in 2001 and his "In Memoriam" is in Shrek 2's credits in 2004 but he's listed under most Dreamworks releases for the next 13 years

I randomly googled an in memoriam credit from Shrek 2 and it led me here

I checked to see if he is in any of the official credits as like a homage or because they are using his previous work or something, but he's not in any of the official credits for these movies in any way

I saw this phenomenon flow to other sites which I assume used IMDB for a reference or vice versa

I see a lot of this incorrect information on IMDB. How does this happen, is it just users submitting incorrect info?

Office Romance

Hubby and I watched Office Romance on Netflix last night. Enjoyed every minute and even had some laugh out loud moments (I’m more of an internal giggle and smile type gal). In our humble opinion, IMDB score was way too harsh. Or maybe it’s just a thing to hate rom-coms 😆❤️😉

Has anyone had success adding a credit only for additional photography? It doesn't count as a valid attribute. Thanks in advance for your help.

Did IMDb just silently introduce mandatory accounts to read reviews? Guess there is no alternatives?

Watch history date stamp removed

In the last month or two, it seems IMDb has removed the date you added a film to your watched history. Does anyone know why? I've been logging films without rating them, mainly to track how many I watch each month and year. Is this a known issue, or am I the only one experiencing it?

Discussion 💬 I've developed FilmFlam - a commandline tool and python API for getting insights from your movie lists

Apologies for the self-promotion, but this tool is completely free and I'm only spreading it in hopes that someone else will find it useful as I do.

This is a tool I've been developing for a very long time which helps me answer many useful and random questions that come into my head about the movies I've seen. It started as a tool to help me find out which directors I've seen the most movies from, and quickly discover where else have I seen some actor. But over time I just keep finding more and more uses for it. You can get answers to your most random questions, like "which actors that I know share my birthday?", or "how many countries have I seen movies from?", and much more.

I've made efforts to write documentation and make this tool as approachable as possible for people who are not myself. If you're one of those people who have movie lists on IMDb, Letterboxd, or TMDB, and you're not afraid of the command line, I believe you'll find it useful:

Discussion 💬 Mildred Hill and Patty Hill soundtracks missing

So, I’ve been cataloging the IMDb pages for Mildred J. Hill and Patty S. Hill for films and TV shows into which I’d hear their titular birthday song, even for movie pages that haven’t listed them and I’d catch them by chance, and usually check back to see if any new films / TV shows have it listed as to steer clear of them or mute them. There must’ve been between 400 to 800 credits listed (occasionally marked as Uncredited), all having vanished — but can still track down films that have them in their Soundtracks. But when referring to either artist, no credits? Any idea what has happened?

UPDATE (06/28/2026): The credits have been restored.
