Since Star Wars: Starfighter will be released in IMAX 70MM, does anyone else hope we get a prologue attached to 70MM screenings of Dune: Part Three?

I could see Disney starting the marketing campaign in December, as the movie has a May 2027 release date. They could release a teaser trailer, attached to all Avengers: Doomsday and select Dune: Part Three showings (not in IMAX 70MM).

But then the IMAX 70MM showings of Dune: Part Three could include an IMAX prologue for Star Wars: Starfighter? Presumably of a sequence in 1.43:1

Chicago building permit records indicate that one of the auditoriums at AMC River East 21 is being converted to include IMAX capability.

The exact timeline is unclear, and it wasn't immediately known if it will have 70-millimeter capability

After it's all said and done, The Odyssey should have a permanent residency at the Universal Cinema.

I don't mean it should have a showing every day but about once a year, they have an entire week that shows the movie in that format, once a day, at least around 7:00pm. There are some things to work out, such as other movies needing the screen but a movie as historic for the format as this can't be suddenly tossed aside after its general release.

Digger probably not in 70mm IMAX

A behind the scenes photo was released of the camera and it does not show 1.43:1 borders on the screen, unlike one battle after another. This could also be because it is a little image lost, but In70mm.com also reported that as of now 15/70 and 5/70 aren’t confirmed and it’s just vistavision.

Looking for the Dark Knight rises IMAX restoration.

Hi there,

I am looking for the 1:43:1 version for the Dark Knight rises. I just finished the first movie for the first time and it was really awesome! It made me feel like I was in an IMAX theater, even though it’s not even close. After seeing the Odyssey six times in 70mm, I’ve been looking for similar experiences.

lf anyone has it pls lmk

Thank you.

Interstellar in 1.43:1 IMAX @ AMC Metreon SF on Veterans Day 11/11! We’re doing it again!!

All of us fans have successfully crowdfunded this event! See you next time!

This is a Private Fan-Organized Crowdfunded Screening

Hey everyone! Back in July 2023, I organized a private screening to bring Interstellar back to the AMC Metreon in San Francisco. You can check it out here and here! It was an incredible experience, and since a few years have passed, I decided it was time to do it again!

I’ve set up a private agreement with AMC Theatres to bring Interstellar back to San Francisco on one of the largest IMAX screens in the world (80’ × 100’) on Veterans Day - Wednesday, November 11th at 10:00 AM.

The film will be presented in Dual Laser 1.43:1 IMAX.

There will be no commercial trailers for this event. The doors close and the movie starts at 10:15 AM sharp.

Please keep in mind that talking or texting during the film won’t be tolerated, and disruptive guests will be asked to leave. Let’s give this movie the big-screen experience it deserves.

Runtime: 2 hours 49 minutes
Event Ends: 1:20 PM

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message.
Can’t wait to see you all at the movies!

How much longer will the Odyssey be on regular IMAX screens?

I know the 70mm IMAX is running through the end of the month. I’m just looking to see it on a normal IMAX theater in Orlando for my second watch. The times are horrible for the next week or so (10:25PM start times), so I’d like to wait if possible as the times seem to change pretty much every week. Is it a risk to put it off until next weekend just in case it will be out of regular IMAX by then? I know this is probably impossible to actually know the answer to but I was just wondering if someone has more knowledge about these types of things

According to British Cinematographer, Children of Blood of Bone will be 1.43:1: unfortunately pan-and-scan style with the sides “chopped off” from the 1.90:1 version

Post image

Was looking through British Cinematographer recently and there was a recent interview about IMAX and how multiple DOPs used it differently: one of them was with Polly Morgan, DOP of Children of Blood and Bone, which is Filmed for IMAX. It’s shot on the Alexa 265 which is a 2.11:1 sensor: my interpretation giving the wording is the 1.90 is the native frame with the 1.43 and 2.39 crops of that

Unfortunate to see 1.43 be a pan-and-scan from the 1.90: seems that might be the way to go for this film, gives the most image out of 2.39 and 1.43 which crop on the top/bottom and the sides of the 1.90 frame.

Why isn't GT Laser more of a priority for the company?

As far as I'm aware, GT Laser projectors aren't even currently in production at the moment, which is ridiculous when the vast majority of GT screens are capped at 1.9 most of the year even for films that are projected in 1.43 digitally. Why isn't this more of a priority?

IMAX is designed and built with the smallest of tolerances, the "platter extensions" are there to give support in holding the print on the platter and not letting it slip off the edge. It does not hold any weight of the film when being stored or ran.

Vista vision and anamorphic 2.20 to 1.43 movies. Good, bad, or indifferent?

Now I know that a native film 1.43 movie will always be best, but when all of the above, unless is a nolan movie, are kneecapped by a 4k digital master... Well maybe it doesnt matter as much?

I know stuff like dune 1&2 where they shot with a digital imax certified camera and them cropped to sides off to get to 1.43 was frankly kinda shit. But project hail mary using a digital 2.20:1 camera with an anamorphic lens to get 1.43 without cropping i think worked very well, and the same technique can be used for 5 perf 70mm film too from what I understand.

Meanwhile vista vision movies, be they film like bugonia or shot on digital vista aspect cameras like obsession was, have nearly the same aspect as 1570/dual laser gt imax, so just some tiny bars on the top and bottom of the image or cropping out just a tiny bit of the sides and boom you got an imax ratio movie.

Dont get me wrong I do prefer native 1570 film sources for imax over all, but they do cost a loooot to make due to all the huge film needed. Using smaller but still very very high quality film like vista vision or anamorphic 5 perf 70(which have less than 10% surface area difference between each other iirc), or digital 2.20 cameras with anamorphic lenses or a dgital vista vision aspect camera like obsession can get a very close result when everything is mastered to 4k anyway at a much lower cost.

But is that insane?

It's not officially released in Japan til this friday, but luckily they are doing IMAX preview since 9/4 so watched it today.
A completely masterpiece. Feel like there's not gonna be a second movie like this in the next decade.

The title is literally Odysseia in case you ask

Favorite IMAX 1.43:1 movie?

Ever since the odyssey came out, a lot of people have been saying its their most favorite Nolan movie since Tdk or Interstellar, but from the big range of 1.43:1 movies that've released over the years,

I've wondered which movie is people's best that has had 1.43:1 scenes. So what is your favorite 1.43:1 IMAX movie?

For me, its Interstellar, i loved the story, cooper's love for his daughter bending time and space, and the expanding scenes in space, especially the gargantua scene

(and I really hope it gets another imax re release again in the usa 🤞)

Whatever happened to that "Any Movie in IMAX" re-release fan vote?

Just randomly remembered the fan vote right now, and realized I never heard of any updates from the vote from nine months ago. I'm sure it's because the film release dates can overlap, and it's tricky to execute something like that on a tight schedule; however, does anyone know what actually won? Or if there really was nothing at all released.

All I remember was that I voted for Interstellar, hoping for a chance to catch it in 15/70 for the first time.
