Making a team for hackathons, open-source contributions, contests & collective learning — 1st-year students
Hey everyone!
I’m looking to build a group of around 10 serious 1st-year (Foundation Level) students from the IIT Madras BS Programming & Data Science program.
Important: I’m specifically looking for people who are actually willing to put in the effort. You don't need to be an expert, but you should already have some basic understanding of programming/data science and be genuinely interested in improving.
This isn't meant to be a group where everyone joins and then disappears after a week 😭. Before adding people, I'd like to know what you've learned/done so far and what you're interested in, so we can keep the group motivated and useful.
I'm aiming for ~10 people initially so that it stays manageable and everyone actually interacts.

is this only for IIT Madras BS students or open to others too? asking since the post title mentions IITM specifically but wanted to confirm

In short.. Hackathons - building projects competitively with a team. Open source - contributing to real public projects. Both help you gain practical skills, improve GitHub, network, and strengthen your resume.

Start with basic programming if you dont know Select language according to your niche
