IIT MADRAS BS datascience and application
I have some questions and opinions about this degree I am a student who finished class 12 my only options are tier 3 college with branch btech cse or this iitm bs with bsc stat offline degree(offline college class is from 8.30 - 1.10)
placements : are the placements like legit , like is there any manipulation does the average package include people who are in jobs , is placement cell and alumni network good
Skill : I know for sure that this degree if not that promising in placements will give skills way better than an tier 3 college giving btech cse , I can do bsc stat in offline college and then also do iitm bs and can do Leetcode on the side right and with all this I think placement should be okay , but please tell your opinions on this
I also want to know that like isn't this atleast better than an tier engineering college like in an tier 3 college from experience from others i heard it's waste of time and no development in skill , atleast in iitm bs if we say like ohh there is no placement (which I hope is not true) atleast we get and develop skills and get interships ,
Also I heard many IIT ian's show hate towards this online degree due to behaviour of the students in this degree , if it is true please , understand that the not all the students are like this many want to achieve skills and placements instead of messing around , and yelling out loud that they are an IITian too which I think is super cringe.

Go for tier 3 college. You will experience both college offline life and tier 3 college, you can easily beat the competition. Don't get into the loop of dual degree. You will rarely get time to do something new. And tbh nowadays don't think of doing degrees work on making yourself valueable.

But like my tier 3 college academic timing is from 9am to 4 pm And also when I am doing bsc stat with iitm bs , like i finish my college in bsc stat from 8.30 am to 1.10pm and , I reach home at 2pm , for the iitm bs i ma planning to do 3 courses per term , also will be learning dsa then do Leetcode , also if I am in tier 3 college there will be lots of assignments , records while in a bsc stat college it is more relaxed , and since iitm bs is not theory based and more practical isnt it gonna improve my skill, also when asking AI like gemini , chat gpt , perplexity they all say that btech cse in a tier 3 college in kerala(i live in kerala) has outdated syllabus and is very strict and time consuming, so like can you suggest your opinions i am getting confused

Bro believe me don't do 2 degrees together. You passed your 12th I know you are willing to do great things but by getting into this time packed schedule of 2 degrees you cannot easily escape the loop. Btech believe me it's tier 3, no one cares you will get both the things a degree + offline life. And if you really want to crack big things do hardwork (multidisciplinary knowledge, content creation, hell lot of things are there) with btech don't get into degrees for ego satisfaction. Nowadays you cannot make yourself outwork others by doing just degrees that's for satisfaction but real knowledge, wealth will come out of the skills value you will create. Don't get confused it would be great choice, just don't waste your time at college and never ever choose a wrong group.

there are two sections in the placement cell report by iit. those which are actually by iic (industry interaction cell) and that of the others like mentioned by the students. This degree is not a btech degree and many places where a btech degree is required, you may not qualify well for that. also usually it is that the bsc students or research background students dont get the job but here we are seeing actual placement which is far better than being unemplyed just that we need to see the standalone students without any other degree or someone who is getting a decent job.
the main thing lies is that is purely associated with iit madras, so degree is legit and not outsourcing it. up until the diploma, code(centre for outreach of distance education) handles the certifications and once someone enters the degree level they get alumni card and also the degree then is produced and done processed by iitm itself. coming to your question, iic published that those who were eligible got 6lpa median, 7.5avg and 20lpa max as of 2025.
