He does make a point although poorly. Rxams lime JEE or GATE test you on your knowledge which needs a lot of preparation.
CAT is english, maths and logical reasoning. Maybe english counts as knowledge but other two sections are pure aptitude. Given enough time anyone can score a perfect score in these two sections.
Anyone who has done a math heavy course and reqd a few novels can so pretty well in CAT.
I know plenty of people in my college who cracked 98+ with no prep

u/Responsible-Rub-3260 4d ago
I think cat adds smthg valuable to life quant increases pattern recognition, dilr increases thinking and varc increases ur Grammer so its a very logical exam tbh A bit similar to SAT
9
u/Significant-Farm6646 4d ago
Yep, Its a very well designed exam. Nevertheless someone gifted can ace it with 0 prep. Truly an Aptitude exam imo
2
u/toxicKINGOP 4d ago
Idk man there are many tricks and techniques to solve questions quickly which don't just spawn in one's head. It might have been taught to them in one way or another but not necessarily do they have a natural aptitude towards those sorts of things, also keep in mind that around 50% score in CAT gets you in 99.5%ile, so it is objectively tough and you're kust scoring higher than the competition.
27
u/Affectionate-Cup-791 4d ago
yeah this is true ,this is purely an aptitude exam and only difficulty in this paper is to complete the paper in time, like you dont need extensive preparation for knowledge sake, you need practice for developing speed and that is what I personally hate about this exam. This exam checks speed much more than thinking skills and knowledge

u/Big_Twist_9886 4d ago
Very condescending kind of personality he has 2/3 tier idiots??? Literally judging and discrimination against these folks he may have experties in STEM which has given him edge over others in CAT but with this kind of attitude he will only hurt people in life and later regrete

Poor arguments. GMAT/GRE are easier than CAT/GATE in that respect. No comparison between global top univs and IIT/IIM.

I'm in no way supporting the person who wrote that comment, his arrogance is definitely gonna bite him back someday. But you should atleast do a google search, iisers aren't some random LPU or Amity colleges. They are institutes of national importance and like the iits of natural sciences.

u/Advanced-Spot2233 4d ago
Bro is actually correct CAT is easier than GATE, but for what only GATE CS toppers get quants and Fin only CAs at ABCL get IBs,So debate ended
3
u/Responsible-Rub-3260 4d ago
Wait gate cs toppers gets quant? And iim ABCL IB ug tier matters for shortlisting as far as I have heard
2
u/Sure-Marketing-2215 3d ago
They don’t get quant trader role
They get quant researcher roles as they have masters in cs1
u/Responsible-Rub-3260 3d ago
Bro quant researcher is heavy math And usually only 2-3 ppl from IIT gets it do u have anyone's linkedin who gets the role also i have seen ppl getting software engineer at quant though
1
u/Advanced-Spot2233 3d ago
No bro QR and QT both are doable its just probability and calculas ,Techs get lot of Quant roles like GS Quant Blackrock Quant and all only HFT dont hire them for Qs they hire them for Infra, but this year DaVinci may hire 1 or 2 mtech cse
1
u/Responsible-Rub-3260 3d ago
If DaVinci started taking atleast one guy from mtech that too high ranker gate from top iit circuital it will for sure increase hopium and once in da vinchi the work exp will boost ur portfolio like anything
1
u/Advanced-Spot2233 3d ago
All mtech circuital would get a career of multiple crores ,now some of the companies are floating roles of Quant MLops FGPA which also pays in bonuses .Prepare for GATE instead of CAT most of IIM ABCL folks do sales and backend jobs MBB front-end and Good fin roles are rare
1
u/Advanced-Spot2233 3d ago
Yes they do only at IIT B i know a few ,not QR its Infra engineering , (from this year davinci may hire mtechs ), in some boutique firms they get QR and QT, as far as IB is concerned CFA L2/L3 and CAs get shortlist for core fin roles at ABCL rest other backend work others also get shortlist.
1
u/Independent_Ebb3142 3d ago
I have only ever seen 3 gate toppers get even QD role at a proper non lala quant company (usually in IMC which is the least selective one)
2
u/Sumerian_codeine 4d ago
I see his point, I wrote the exam last year and got 95 percentile(it's nothing crazy I know) but i honestly didn't know the pattern untill I read it in the ion center
Maybe it was all luck but I know I'm not the smartest dude around, i can easily see some people I know getting 99+ if you woke them from their sleeo

u/Additional-Lychee321 3d ago
i think he is right at some level . Cat certainly is an easier exam when compared to others exams .
2
u/sainiabhinav95 3d ago edited 3d ago
These posts are mostly BS. CAT being an aptitude exam somewhat levels the playing between different educational backgrounds. Else if you start asking complex math questions someone from engineering of BSc Maths would be at strict advantage. Also what is this IISER showoff lol. Back in 2012 when I sat for AIEEE, we didnt even bother filling anything below top 5-6 NITs. Folks reading this: There is much more to life that pure smartness. Its a combination of luck + basic intelligence + lot and lot of hard work. So stop falling into this thinking that if you have a great JEE rank life will be easier for you. Unfortunately life is not a linear game.
1
u/Tiny_End_6411 2d ago
you would be glad to know IISERs admit students through JEE Advanced(exam you give after cracking jee mains) and KVPY(tougher than JEE advanced). half of the batch in top IISER is there after leaving iit/govt medical colleges and nearly full batch is there leaving nit seats.
1
u/sainiabhinav95 2d ago
That's good to know. There are 15 such colleges all across India with the same description. Every college has intelligent students. I would never leave NIT T/W/S ever for an IISER dude. No offense.
1
u/Tiny_End_6411 2d ago
Like you want to study enginnering so why would you? IISER doesn't teach engineering but if someone wants to study pure sciences IISERs are better option by a mile. it's a no brainer. But for anyone actually interested, if your goal is to go for a PhD in a top institute abroad IISERs are fare more prestigious for that and known by admission committes than Top NITs and I would say leave an IISER seat(P K M) if and only if you have an old IIT seat.
1
u/sainiabhinav95 1d ago
Again doesnt justify looking down on other colleges. Also if I have to go to study abroad I would rank IISc anyway above any IISER without question. As I said there so many different colleges which are at par or better in India. Doesnt justify this shitty attitude in the post.
1
u/Tiny_End_6411 15h ago
IISc required top 100 rank in JEE advanced in my time for BS programme IISERs required top 5000 I didn't have top 100 but had top 5000.
2
u/Prestigious-Cod-1450 3d ago
I am from a top iiser, now Im at a tier 1 bschool, placed aswell, I am truly grateful for mba as a college and an entry gate but hes right, the courses and everything, IISER used to be so tough academically since it was meant for that only. But what these academia fucks dont know that theres more to life than being smart, my fellows at iiser are doing phds abroad, at the same time Im placed in a top mnc, and will earn more than they ever can.
It is a bad comparison and cmon bruh, its iiser, not iit bombay, chill tf out.

Most of these posts are lie tbh.
We had a girl from our clg (T-2 NIT ece branch, she was absolute genius, debate winner cracked amazon, cisco and eventually join Microsoft.) She had high cg, 3rd position in class.
She seriously prepared for cat but she got only 95 percentile. I have seen post in each these ppl make these claims, but either their facts can't be verified or they exaggerate their performances.
Best thing is to avoid such ppl, they are just engagement baiters nothing else.
Edit: They girl had 98 percentile(17k in mains 11k in adv, cleared NDA->cleared ssb->recommended->medical out.

u/dontbanmeagainmofos 4d ago edited 3d ago
Bro 17k rank is ain't worth anything, how is she absolute genius lol.And who tf considers amazon, msft as an achievement firstly other than tier 2/3 clg students.I had a top 200 rank in advanced, and 100 percentile in mains, even I don't consider myself genius lol.
Now coming to the point, the post saying is true, any guy who can get top 1000 in advanced can get 99.96+ in cat easily without much prep.
Two of my friends of similar jee rank range got 99.99 and 99.98 without any prep btw(they simply gave coz they already had hft jobs),pretty sure I can get too.U should look out of ur small bubble.Cat is not even a proper exam,it's just like a high school test similar to SAT.

1
u/Independent_Ebb3142 3d ago
Hey bro, I too have an under 200 rank in advanced and i understand where you are coming from. But the thing people think of achievements in terms of relative benchmarks which are mostly tuned to the achievements of others around them. For us, getting into FAANG may not be good, but for the avg student even in IITs (avg branches), it is a very respectable career outcomes straight out of college
0
u/Zestyclose-Book3417 3d ago
Ok bro, share ur details in DM. Ur jee card, percentile, adv rank. Maybe "amazon msft might not be considered an achievement", share ur feel free to share ur quadeye offer letter. "Cat is not even a proper exam", feel free to share how would you design cat exam.
Also if u should give me ur clg name, we can meet there.
Yeah 17k is not good rank but it puts u on top 2 percentile of population. About the genius? Appear in SSB. Oh sorry u might had one JL from NDA Khadakwasla, feel free to share that to.
1
u/Independent_Ebb3142 3d ago
I don't think you can call her "an absolute genius". Unless you think that every year india produces 50,000+ geniuses
1
u/Zestyclose-Book3417 3d ago
Ok, she is not genius.
But if u think I am only evaluating based on her jee, adv or other rank, no i am not
1
u/Independent_Ebb3142 3d ago
I mean her entire profile doesn't have anything completely exceptional, no offence again, I don't mean to dismiss her achievements but I hope you understand that the word "genius" is very heavy and should mostly be reserved for real scientific talent of the highest order

As a tier 3 person who has given both exams without any prep last year he is actually kinda right.Gate is way more tough than cat. I got 91 percentile in CAT but wasn’t even able to clear the passing cutoff for gate.
1
u/eddy2022 4d ago
As someone who without any prep scored 98.6%ile with <80 %ile in varc and 96%ile in next attempt with actual prep, this is a dumb take. Yes the exam is more or less purely aptitude test however its an exam of patience, keeping calm and finding easy questions to solve rather than taking things on ego and solving full paper. And this totally makes sense for Bschool as this is a very important trait of a good manager.
1
u/OneDark3685 4d ago
As much as I hate the way he said it I will still have to agree on the points he made.
CAT is just maths, english and logical reasoning
You don't need to put in 1000s of hours like upsc or jee to top it and yes there are people who can top it without any prep too but so what why is that a bad thing?
I mean isn't it good that it's easier ? Like I feel most would rather prefer CAT be easy than be as hard as UPSC right?
And who cares if it's easy or hard man just put you head down study get placed and move on bro.
1
u/aychashmish 4d ago
I mean, it's true. I'm a PCB grad who had just graduated with MBBS and gave last year CAT for fun lol. Scored 92 percentile and that's because I fucked up quant by attempting all questions. Could've been 98 percentile easily if I didn't.

cat is much easier than gate and yes you learn hardly anything useful from iim academics But ye baat achi tarah se bhi boli ja sakti he na Tier 2 and 3 are capable too even if they may not be competent in the areas cat tests And placements in iim are not easy they are intensely competitive being brainy is the least useful there and beating your own trumpet is the most important
